Grade for the running Game today

I did like Poole today better than the other games. Looked like he was mowing over some people. That should give him some momentum heading into GA. Dawgs gotta go down.

He showed some acceleration and hit the hole hard for the first time today, as far as I noticed. It was good to see - but it's just so inconsistent.

We did not produce a good running game between the tackles. Good would be a B. I've got to give it a C or lower. I'm not going to give extra credit for WR end arounds.

We had 2 end arounds. One devrin and one to neal. I can't think of one end around poole or lane got. I may be forgetting one but I'm almost positive neither of them got an end around and both had 4 or more ypc

:hi: My point is that I am sick of UT useing the Name tennessee of which I love and being a disgrace year after year. Paying coaches 6 million to be fired , giving another coaching staff 7 million combined and a way out for only 800k. Pay and assistent Alabama AD almost 750k a year to come to help out the ole tenn boys. And act like they are a football threat. UT/ Vandy will always be a second rate football team.:peace2: thank you

You have displayed some Gibbsian-level stupidity today, congrats.

No - you're right. I was commenting in general on the end arounds. The only rushing TD, and they contributed significantly to the pre-4th quarter rushing totals.

Were a passing team. We are not going to pound the ball 30 times a game. We have the best passing team in the Sec. We would be stupid not to utilize that.

But, can he execute the 'ole "give them a blocked punt so you can pick it up on the rebound for a first down" trick? Works every time.

We had 46 rushing attempts against Montana for 2.8 ypc (Poole had 24). We had 35 rushing attempts against Cincinnati for 3.6 ypc (Poole had 21 carries). We had 21 rushing attempts against Florida for -.4 ypc (Poole had 9).

We started out trying to be a team that would run the ball some, which honestly you need in SEC play. We turned into a fairly one-dimensional passing team.

I love our passing game. We just aren't there yet on the run.

There's thumbs up' buttons available. Can we have 'You're a moron and should be denied posting privileges' buttons for tripe such as this?

I agree we aren't there on the run, but you have to remember that sacks count as rushing yards and not passing yards. Plus you have to figure in Dooley just pounding the ball to waste clock. Poole had a 4.1 against Montana, 4.9 against Cincy, 2.0 against Florida and 5.1 today. Better each game except for Florida which he got hurt the first play

I will admit that I was surprised when I saw Poole was maintaining a 4+ ypc, except a generally miserable performance against Florida (but, they are also the only good team we've played).

We legitimately tried to get a running game going against Montana (a lot) and Cincinnati (to a somewhat lesser extent). It just wasn't there. Hopefully the coaches will get the oline to find a mean streak and blow some guys off the line. There strength isn't there yet, but they should be able to do better than they are - and that is mental. I wonder if we don't have a lot of heady OL that are good at pass blocking and technique and don't have the mean streak to just blow a guy up. Something tells me Richardson has that once he gets in...

All the better runs were bounced outside against todays weaker competition. We have serious trouble running up the middle. In other words that bounce outside won't be there against the S.E.C. teams. I try to keep it positive, but I'm really worried about this.

I think the power sweep was a good work around and if they continue to practice the down field blocking it would work in SEC play. IMO.
I agree that the plodding cuts to the edge would not work in SEC but overall we mixed the run plays up a lot better today. There was a good mix of looks which is where we were sucking anyway IMO. With our draws up the gut everyone in their brother knew where we were trying to go and that we didn't have the lineman to make it work. Give me Rivera or Bartholomeu blocking down field with essentially an old green bay power sweep and I'll take it.
Also there were some holes today along the line. Poole was tripping over the ankles of our linemen because they were small but they were there.

If you put a HS grad in a fifth grade reading class, would you expect a decent grade? At the least?

This isn't a video game. Were not going to have 400 passing yards and 200 rushing yards. Even against buffalo.

:crazy::crazy: REALLY???? I thought we were supposed to have 1200 yards of offense a game lol.

We nearly did have 200 yards rushing actually, but O line and the Turf Monster are why I say C minus. Against SEC teams that isn't going to get it done. I did like our strong side sweeps and RB screens.

Did you hear Tauren after the game, said falling down when you have a TD isn't gonna get it done in the SEC, I agree.

Sounds like you need to find a new team to root for.

D..way to many whiffs from the tight end and o line. We should be running for major yard whenever we want because of our passing threat. Teams are just whipping us at the point of execution and on to many plays there is a surge through the line. When you have several 25 yard runs on wr sweeps and the rb busting outside your average is going to be skewered.
