So, now that everything is OFFICIAL, What grade would you give Coach Dooley for this staff?

Assistant HC/WR Charlie Baggett
OC/RB Jim Chaney
DC/DB Justin Wilcox
OL Harry Hiestand
QB Darin Hinshaw
DB/RC Terry Joseph
TE/ST Eric Russell
DL Chuck Smith
LB Lance Thompson

As of now the hires look pretty good. But you never know. Don't judge them on one year cause next year isn't looking good anyway. Give them 3 years see who is still on staff and the shape the program is in. So ask me in 3 years.

i agree with the above poster, looks to be a solid B with possibly an A if it all pans out. Right now, however, i'm leaning toward a B.

It's Incomplete for me until I see some "evidence"---say what you want about X but he assembled a great staff even though they produced so-so on the field for the one year.

B+. If all pans out, this gets a solid A from me.

PS 1,000th post. Want to thank everybody for allowing me to stay around this long. :baloon::fireworks:

Keeping Chaney and Thompson was a big first step. Baggett, Hiestand and Smith also seem to be really good hires. I'll give it a B+ for now. Missed out on a lot of DCs but hopefully Wilcox turns out well.

Solid A. If he can coach, we are onto something. If he cannot coach, CDD should leave the cupboard full for the next guy.

Hmmm...

I'm looking that list over. I don't see Lane Kiffin on it.

I don't see Ed Orgeron on it, either.

That adds up to an A-plus.

Seriously, I think he did a good job assembling the staff. All those guys have good track records. It doesn't have the "star power" of our old staff, but it might be just as good at producing on-field results, which is what matters.

They had "star power" b/c they had incredible track records of being phenomenal recruiters/coaches.

It's impossible to say with this staff. There are some good coaches for sure. But, translating that to competing big time in the SEC doesn't always happen. It's a cop out, but we won't know for a few years.

I for one absolutely love the staff from a teaching standpoint. Guys like Hiestand, Baggett, and Smith should really help in the development of personnel. Their NFL experience helps them in recruiting, however it still remains to be seen how this staff as a whole will recruit. We know CDD, CJC, and CLT can really recruit but can the rest of the hires follow suit is my big question.

I'll go with a solid B (it also can't be understated how important it is to have 3 african american coaches on staff..... sad that it has to be mentioned but very true nonetheless.)

B+ / Wilcox is unproven, but could become an A . Chaney I think will be great. Chuck Smith - Anyone who owns a training business named "Defensive Line Inc" excites me. sure has worked out for some NFL guys. Thompson is good. Baggett is proven.. Hinshaw, Heis and Joseph have good credentials, we will see how they work out.

Looks good on paper but we won't know a thing for a year or two of off field development, game management and recruiting. Let's have this discussion after 2011.

The verdict is still out. I think that is what Dooley would expect. It is nice to be excited about Tennessee football again. Having a coach like DD makes me feel dirty and embarrassed for supporting douche bag to begin with. Dooley fits our system, Classy guy. Wilcox has done great. Although I would not have previously admitted it, Boise State is the real deal. They have remained on the national radar consecutively for the few years. No good and done like other school who have claimed BCS contention. They have actively tried to increase strength of schedule. Seems like confidence to me. LT and Chaney speak for themselves. I would not have wanted the job. These guys are left with not much depth at key positions, especially on D. So far they have far exceeded any reasonable expectations and I have a feeling that this will be the trend.

Derek Dooley: B ( Not the most impressive resume, but I have liked what I seen.)

Charlie Bagget: A ( The most impressive hire, We will return the WRU)

Jim Chaney: A ( was already on the staff)

Justin Wilcox: C ( Like another poster said not drinking this cool-aid, everyone is pumping him up bc of Oregon that was not an indicator of what he can do, if we beat Oregon this year than maybe it was not a fluke)

Harry Hiestand: B ( Good hire not the greatest with connections that we will need. Has a great ability to teach and coach players.

Darin Hinshaw C ( Only good thing about this hire is the Memphis connection and Florida , which we strongly need. Don't know much about coaching)

Terry Joseph C ( He is going to have to prove himself to the vols I just don't care for this hire should be good for recruiting New OL )

Eric Russell : C ( Pray he can help our ST and make our Freshman kicker everyone is hoping he becomes. Texas connection.)

Chuck Smith B ( he will have to learn the ways of recruiting but will have an amazing time teaching out players plus he loves the vols)

Lance Thompson A ( enough said )

Overall C+
