Why? Lance Thompson is going to be somebody's DC next year at a BCS school if we don't promote him to it first. Being under Nick Saban as a defensive coach for the longest, and then on Monte's hip all last season (that's why he came...to learn under Monte)...he's 10 times more of a candidate than Chavis was when he got promoted back in the 90's.

Doesn't matter a whole lot...coaching against WAC teams and against SEC teams is a world of difference. That includes recruiting. I'd like to see Thompson promoted to DC and bring in Al Wilson possible as the LB coach, but the Bumpas from TCU would be great too.

The main reason for Thompson is the same reason for Chaney...to maintain as much continuity as possible after all this mess, and the guy has been under 2 of the best defensive minds in all of football...and what's more is he's already way ahead in scouting SEC teams.

I just don't want the players we have coming back to miss a beat, by having to start all over again and learning yet another system. We talk about being set back 3-5yrs because of Kiffin. I don't think that has to be the case at all, if you don't rip out the entire chassis and frame, so to speak...but instead build on it and add some modifications here and there.

Was that Graduate Assistant Larson ever confirmed as coming here? The UT website isn't listing him yet.

I do have a question. I see everyone keeps mentioning Garner for either DC, or DL/RC. My question would be why does everyone think this? It seems to me that CDD is only hiring guys he has a past with. Did he work with RG at some point? Yes, I know it's pretty much the same people talking up Garner and Trooper for any and every position that comes open......but I just do not see it....unless CDD has worked with them before. JMO

Really do not believe Garner will ever leave GA to come to UT. If he hasn't come before now then I do not believe it will happen ever. Reason: Wife.

Not sure about Trooper but I do not think he is the quality coach we are looking for standing on the sidelines.

The only place that I have ever seen Garner or Trooper's names as potential hires is on these wild a$$ speculation boards. Has anyone seen either name mentioned by anyone who really knows of what they speak?

Does anyone think the reason CDD hasn't announced Spangler as DC is because he doesn't want to destroy LaTech recruiting class?

That is a very good speculation. I have heard about three scenarios as to why we don`t yet have a DC. I think all three are probably true to an extent.
