GoVols saying UT expected to hire Cutcliffe (merged)

Some of you guys really blow! Cut has never been anything but a fantastic coach. He has shortcomings in recruiting and that is pretty much it. This is the perfect hire at this moment in time. UT needed to bring in one of its own that would be loyal to a fault. Can you think of anyone else that fits into that category better than Cut? No you can't. I for one am thrilled that we won't get screwed over after a year or two again by hiring some young guy who really doesn't want to be here and will bolt at the first opportunity to become head coach at a former school where he coached or played. Cut is Big Orange all the way and his assistants will be too if they plan to stay here very long. Some of you folks on here are trashing the man like he killed your dog or something. He is everything that was good about UT football in the last 20 years. I'm proud of Hamilton for signing him.

i think keeping it in the family is what hamilton needs to do to save HIS JOB! Cutcliff is a good hire, he will bring the pro style offense that Kiffin was recruiting for in the first place.

if cut is hired! can we move outta the SEC and maybe to the MAC or something smaller.cause we will have no talent or will get no talent to compete in the SEC!!!!!

Darn It! I sure was hoping for a Troy Calhoun hire. Not that I think Cut will be bad for the program because stability is very important at a school that relies on tradition like most good schools. I would have loved to have seen someone who doesn't run the same old cookie cutter offense as every other team in the nation. A coach with a set of stones who would do things in a more smashmouth style throwing it up in the face of the negative neigbobs of negativism. Alas, we shall stay the course of mediocrity and I shall continue to Tevo the military academies and dream the sweet dream of rocking the cradle in the triple option.:salute:

I think if he keeps Lance and names him recruiting coordinator and brings in a couple other good recruiters we will be fine. I imagine plenty of QB's and receivers will want to play for Cut.

If they hire cutcliffe, We will be back to competing for second in SEC East or maybe third. We will not be able to compete against FL and AL. This will set us back in a major way,

EVERYONE - Quit freaking out. Cutcliffe is a solid hire. He was the OC during the most dominant period of UT football in our lifetimes. He also coached 4 (yes, 4) first round draft picks that were quarterbacks. So relax, Cutcliffe is a safe, but reliable hire.

Except that he has absolutely sucked as a head coach. Is he a great OC? Yes. A great head coach? No.

I hope he proves us all wrong if hired, but I don't think it will happen.

Thank God you're here to calm us down.

Just when I think you couldnt possibly get any dumber, you go and pull a stunt like this!AND TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF!

Absolutely right. This is the perfect hire under the circumstances.

For those of you that are making statements about players leaving because of Cutcliffe coming here....

You might want to think before you post on an open website that any of these recruits can view. When I was in high school I didnt know one coach from another aside from an elite few. I relied on friends and family to tell me if people were good coaches.

Point is, you want to vent, but what if someone like a Bryce Brown is reading this and says "If the fans say he is dung, I'd better get outta here."

IMO

He has got it worked out on which assts he will be bringing., which was the big hold up in the first place with him wanting to bring his entire staff. Cut knows the deal. Its amazing to me that Tennessee is a place that coaches are trying to avoid now. Never in the history of Air Force football could you have offered their head coach the Tennessee job and him turn it down.

Seriously, relax. He coached at Ole Miss and Duke. Not exactly hotbeds of recruiting. Go to ncaa.com and look at Duke's record since 2000. They won more than 2 games once. Cutcliffe had them competitive in two years. No one other than Spurrier has had success at Duke. He turned UT around in 2006 before going to Duke. Remember Randy Sanders?

Yeah which is scary...

If he were being hired at Texas or Florida you might be able to get away with that. But great recruiting is the one absolutely critical requirement that a UT coach have. We cannot compete in the SEC with a coach who has shortcomings in recruiting.
