Gotta read this.

Disappointing Manning has aligned himself with Haslam. A huge slap in the face to Fulmer. Yeah, it’s just business, but Manning needs to “Omaha” on this one and call a different play for himself.

Yes, disappointing.
But it does fit the narrative that Peyton wants to be an NFL GM and that the Mannings may want to own an NFL franchise. If true, you can see why Peyton wouldn’t want to upset a current NFL owner.
Do wish if true, though, he would have just stayed out of UTs current coaching search.

Obama personally resented Romney unlike McCain who he respected. He didn't think Romney was worthy of standing on a stage with him. He also thought the American people would see through his flip flopping. And so Obama didn't take the debate prep seriously. His staffers were desperately trying to prepare but he wasn't focused. He thought people wouldn't believe Romney.

Obviously he was wrong. After that debate Romney surged in the polls and Obama decided he had to now prepare for the debates and take this game seriously.

The thing that surprised me when I heard this was the personal resentment toward Romney. I didn't know Obama had such strong negative feelings toward Romney and that he was also reckless enough to blow off the debate prep because he thought the American people wouldn't believe Romney because he held different positions in the past. That was very naive of Obama.

Thanks! Good insight.

All verifiable except it was Belichick, not Gruden, that they had a deal with. Bill wants to retire and take on College FB as a hobby in his twilight years.

Good Read - fictional or not. My thoughts though are:
Now that Davenport and the Board of Trustees are finally involved with this search, WHY can't we go back to Gruden and say "the team is yours - you have all power to do as you please" ??
This^

cool story bro...btw, some of you people believe some of the dumbest ***. I wonder how you made it to adulthood.

Haha, this is basically a synopsis of everything that's been posted on Volnation for the last two weeks and is nothing more than pure speculation.

If we already had Gruden signed I suppose he'll also sue. :hi:

How the hell do you have a top three that goes Gruden, Kelly, and then SCHIANO. That's like saying I want to eat donuts, chocolate, and feces in that order.

This was a post from UT booster on Twitter. Interesting read. Fact or Fiction??

Here's what REALLY happened at UT, not what you saw & heard at the press conference:
Remember that you read this here first:
Ergen, Thornton, & Davis, among others, had enough of Haslam's pick for AD botching the coaching hire & embarrassing our/their alma mater. It was becoming a bad reflection on them as businessmen to be portrayed in such a bad light nationally, since they are known to be prominent donors to UT.
They gave Davenport an ultimatum & she called Currie in off the road. He went anyway on a plane owned by one of his KSU donors at his former school, which is why no one could find him or contact him yesterday.
Peyton had aligned himself with the Haslams, & one rumor is that he has been offered a piece of the Browns to run them when they inevitably clean house for the second time at the end of the season. Other rumors abound that the Haslams have promised the Mannings they will help them be able to acquire another NFL franchise or a piece of one.
Leach is really interested in this job, but probably won't get it now. That's a real shame, because he & Kiffin are the two best coaches we could have hired, & Spurrier said so today on Finebaum. They know how to recruit & build a staff & run offenses that deploy their weapons to the utmost on the field.
Just a few hours ago, it was Haslam & Manning aligned on one side, pitted against Ergen, Thornton, & Davis on the other. They contacted Fulmer, who met them at the airport. Haslam & Manning wanted Sigmon named interim AD. The others wanted Fulmer & said they were ending their donations if he wasn't given the job on some basis.
Ergen was giving $35M annually to UT when Fulmer was here as coach & has only given $10M annually since. He told UT he would make up for any shortfall in what the Haslams may withhold.
You can tell that Davenport is in way over her head in this job & was visibly shaken at the press conference. She didn't know how to answer any of the questions.
The reason Currie didn't use a search firm is that he was given a list of 3 coaches to interview by Haslam that Davenport signed off on. In order, they were 1. Gruden, 2. Kelly, & 3. Schiano. Gruden was already signed & ready to come, as some of these other boosters had already gotten his agreement, but Haslam nixed the hire because Gruden wanted total control of the program like Saban has at Bama & Meyer at OSU, & Haslam was determined not to let go of his control of everything.
By the time Currie got to Kelly, he had already been approached by both Florida & UCLA, & had decided to go to one of those places. Currie went to the Bahamas knowing he was going to offer Schiano when he got back home. It was only when the firestorm hit on Sunday that Currie had to go beyond the original Haslam list, which is when we got started getting turned down by so many others. Currie made a last ditch attempt to save his job by going for Leach, but he wasn't authorized by Haslam or Davenport to be contacted.
Now, the rest of this is speculation, but maybe more educated guess than conjecture:
Cutcliffe, now age 63, & Miles, age 64, will be the two top targets now for HC, with Tee Martin as OC brought in under either of them & groomed to be their successor. That's the plan. Might involve Chavis or Steele as DC. Should have a hire within 48 hours.
Not sure where they will go if this plan doesn't fall through. Only thing that bothers me about Fulmer in this search is that there will probably be no "outside the box" thinking & any new blood other than Tee. Also, he went with Currie to interview Doeren in NC & had signed off on his hire, which would have been a disastrous hire, so it was just fortuitous for us that he turned us down.

One comment and I'll put the disclaimer first. I didn't hear Spurrier say it myself but my best friend since 1959 and a person I would totally trust said Spurrier stated that Tee Mmartin would be our best option because he would unite the fan base. Note that he didn't say he was the best coach. The statement in the original post says best coach so maybe he said both.

Jimmy Haslam isn't out of this yet by any means.

This was just 1 fight, the war is a long way from finished.

Never forget, as long as 1 person has Millions or Billions of $$$$ and a secret offshore bank account can be opened then anyone can be bought.

I still have zero confidence that Fulmer will go get us the type of coach we really must have and here's why...

1...Fulmer will never give up enough control of the footVol Team that a serious coach will demand, that would undermine some of Fulmers power.

2...Every serious coach will want to know for certain that their boss, the AD, is on rock solid ground for at least 4 or more years before they risk taking the UT HC job and moving their family.

Fulmer supposedly is only on a 2 year deal and that's not the kind of guaranteed long term stability a serious, experienced coach will want.

3...Fulmer has zero knowledge or experience as a AD, at any level, and that leads to mistakes and makes it easier for Haslam to buy the right people in the right places inside the AD to undermine Fulmer and get him fired and then we're right back with a new AD search and most new ADs want their own hand picked coaches so then we're looking for a new HC for our footVol Team.

4...Just the rumors of Les Miles on the hill makes me cringe...If we're willing to spend $7 Million or $8 Million per year for a HC then we should be able to hire most any really good, experienced coach, even better than Leach.

Sorry my friends, I believe Davenport and the BoT got scared and frantic and wanted to do anything to make us fans SHUT UP and not protest anymore.

Perfect PR move to get us fans to settle down was to put Fulmer in the AD seat and it worked fantastically for them.

Now they'll hire whoever they want and we fans won't be able to say or do anything because all paperwork will be signed before we know for certain what's going on.

I wish I could be excited and optomistic but this just feels all wrong and at my age and in my health I doubt I'll ever see my beloved Vols back on top again.

Dear God, I pray I'm totally wrong.

When dealing with Msg Boards, You have to take everything with a Grain of Salt.

Volnation is the best for Transparency...The members of this site are a very good mix. I have been around here for a long time. In fact longer than my join date closed and restarted an account.

Everybody brings an unique perspective to this board...Are there insiders posting? Yes. There are Trolls, of course...

But we get good information, a pulse, an open eye on what is going on....It's what makes this place special...

Know who to listen to on this board and ignore those when it serves in their best interest and not Volnation.

I can only feel good about what I am reading on this site.
The behind the scenes happenings is very limited information and only a few can truly post things with confidence...

Volnation is full of information, both good and bad.
Volnation is full of opinions, some good and bad.
Volnation is full of facts, read them for what they are worth and separate them for personal posters agendas and you should be alright.

Posters that have been around for a while and have been constant and usually are in the know...

They don't state except what they are hearing from reliable sources...They take accountability and responsibility for their post.

I watch about 10 to 12 posters on this board...suggest you do the same...

Can we please stop with the Gruden talk?? Any earthly idea how foolish people sound still talking about him? He was never coming to Tennessee and he never will come to Tennessee. No offense, but can we stop with the unicorns and rainbows?

Well, not sure if you noticed or not, but there was a thread about Jon Gruden here on VN recently, and best I remember, it had something like 4,599,863,996,234,101 posts. And again, if my memory is correct, several posts at least had reliable sources indicating Gruden was interested and or heaven forbid, even close to signing.

Therefore, since VN burned up over 1,000 man years of posts on this thread, I thought going back to JG and asking him if he might be still interested, now that Currie the maroon is out of the pic, might be the right thing to do. At least we might get Gruden to make a public comment on his thoughts. Wouldn't that be loverly???

I think your right my friend.
Fulmer was a good coach but can't recognize talent.
The game has changed a lot since Fulmer
He will still go after a UGA style coach
While the only coaches to beat Saben
Is Spread RPO coaches

This is an issue for me..

...but Haslam nixed the hire because Gruden wanted total control of the program like Saban has at Bama & Meyer at OSU, & Haslam was determined not to let go of his control of everything.

How in the name of everything sane can a booster nix a hire? He is not on the board nor was he part of the HC search committee... so that blows my mind. The only way that has legs is that Haslam has the enough of the weaker minded board members under his direct control. Which needs to be nipped in the bud, if true.

Haslem made every decision for sometime. Just like the big money people at every big school. Oh by the way, another Haslem is the boss of everyone at UT. He is the Governor.
