Our HC, and his staff, if Vols fans remain patient, he's the one to bring us back. Our FG kicker made a statement in an article. He said, "...they got confidence in me and I'm extremely thankful I have Coach (Josh) Heupel, Coach (Mike) Ekeler. They are amazing coaches (and) I love playing for them."
When you players with that kind of relationship to a coach, you attract more of the same. I believe it also resonates with parents of recruits as well. Who will push their kids to sign up to play for that coach.

Regarding McGrath, his value may prove to be the difference in winning and losing in more than a few games this season. Pittsburgh is just the beginning. All hail the man!

Not to throw a wet towel on this love fest, BUT if he were missing FGs, I wonder if his and their love would be the same?;)

Good coaches (or business managers) show their players the correct techniques to be successful. The rest is up to the players. Not so good coaches/managers tell their players to be successful and in essence, do not create an environment of learning and teamwork.

Coach Heupel gets it, and his success is in his record. He's 37-14 between UCF and UT. Coaching players "up" is happening right in front of us. You can take a group of mediocre players (not talking UT) and with proper skills and determination, they can play with the heart of a lion and win those games they should win and battle hardily against tougher foes. So, just imagine what a talented group of players can do if coached up?!

3-0 should be a reality and Florida will more than likely run into a brick wall when they step foot onto Shields Watkins field. Oh how sweet 4-0 will be!

Wet towel sun dried, I'm just happy we have a 155 howitzer as artillery to fire 50-55 yard FGs. To acknowledge your statement, yeah, I know all too well how fans and folks will turn on you like rabid rats when things don't go their way, or they don't get what they want. It's why Peyton won't ever be coaching, especially at the UT. He's too smart to put himself in that situation.

Never say never. BUT UT's is no different than any other fanbase. All fan bases are like the wind, they can blow warm or cool or cold from any direction. It all depends on what they expect from their team and has very little to do with "what you did for me last year". I do expect you are right, Payton won't be coaching. Why would he, not to prove much by coaching. Teaching (he and family) likely satisfy his involvement with the game on a playing type environment.

I am almost inclined to agree with you 100% ... except for one LITTLE TINY detail: an 11 year old son who plays football.

I think it is too early to make that statement.
First,
I recognize Peyton's tendency to use humor in answering questions.
Second, he IS coaching. he is helping coach his son's team. But he is doing it as a volunteer AND I think it is really about being a present parent in his son's life.
Third, his role at the Manning Passing Academy suggests that helping people develop their skills is important to him: which is one aspect of describing a coach.
Fourth, as long as his son is playing football, I expect his to continue to find ways to participate as a (volunteer) coach.

Do I think Peyton will be in a JOB as a coach on an NFL team in any capacity? NO!
A resource. YES! He has said, he IS open to being a resource. Which if you want to be accurate could be either titled a 'consultant', an 'instructor' ... but the function is a temporary coach.
Looks to me like Dungy and his life have had a strong impact (dissuaded) on Manning getting into the JOB of being a coach that keeps him away from his kids.
Do I think Peyton will take a JOB as a coach on a High School or Collegiate level? I think it is still too early to tell. He does not NEED a JOB!
But could I see him taking over a JOB that would allow him to help his son? YES, I do.
Frankly, that is me thinking that Peyton and I would make the same decision as a parent.... and I could be totally wrong about that.
Do I think Peyton will take a JOB as a coach at UT? NO! I think that has disaster written all over it!
Unless, his son has real talent AND he decides to go to school at UTK. If that scenario plays out ... all bets are off! But that's just me ... and my speculation is highly suspect. :^)

Can't disagree on the bulk of your post. Do be aware Peyton said several years ago that he wouldn't ever be a coach. I think it was related to someone asking about his coaching at the UT.

I love all this "feel good" about our coach and I have no reason not to believe it. But....I have heard it all before. It all sounds good during this time period but the only way to sustain it is to WIN BABY WIN. Because unless and until a coach can get us to repeated 10-2 or better seasons, its all just fine talk. Start losing and you find out all the things you arent hearing. Thats when all the things that were charming will turn bitter.

Sound like a case of BVS? Sure, but it is reality in every stadium, every boardroom, every campaign. In real life, only the few get a trophy.

Only the good AND great will be long remembered. Many are good, boys club coaches and such that, though deserving of praise, will never become known, much less remembered. Their reward is eternal. Then there are some who were gifted with preternatural skills and became renowned for their great deeds, only to have the memory of them washed away because of their moral failings. Only the very few can achieve both and pass into legend.

Heard this about Pruitt and Butch. He'll lose to Florida in two weeks and y'all will still anoint him as the savior.

Try to imagine Tennessee being as deep as 'bama or Georgia with high ranked 4* and 5* players as deep as either of the aforementioned teams with Heupel in charge. If he can beat Florida, LSU, SC, KY, Missouri, Vandy as I feel is a reality, Beating one or the other of the Tide or Bulldogs would, in my opinion, make Tennessee a legitimate destination for the cream of the crop. That plus Spyre.

"Heard it all before," yep, I know what you mean. So have I. However, I have a persistent ailment. I'm doggishly optimistic when it comes to my Vols.

I'm hopeful. I cannot afford to be pessimistic or optimistic in life so I don't make a habit of it as a fan... or anything else. The pessimist ignores positive things. The optimist ignores negative things. Being hopeful allows me to be "realistic" about both while looking for the best outcome.... and being prepared for the worst.

That's nice. To each his own, I suppose.

Not bragging or judging. I've just been burned by both extremes.

I understand. Some of us are what is called stubborn in outlook, whatever it may be. There are certain things, places, people, events and such I literally refuse to be involved with due to such burning as you mention. But with my Vols, as I said, I have an incurable optimistic ailment.

In reality, he is hitting them and they do love each other, so save the hypotheticals. Enjoy the ride!
