Got to get Croom involved in Athens

Unfortunately Rogers caught the dropsies at the end of the Akron game. He did have a remarkable catch over an Akron defender which a team like UGA would likely intercept or at least break up. I agree though Bray needs to be better and CP absolutely must see more catches. I'll restate the sentiment already posted though Rivera before Rogers is our number one concern for a number 3 option.

I don't honestly care who it is. UT just doesn't need Hunter and CP catching 10+ with no one else more than 1.

UT needs not only a 3rd receiver... Bray needs to hit 4, 5, 6, and 7. He has guys with more than enough ability. There's a reason JH and CP aren't getting operating room. Bray needs to spread it around.

^ Croom's mom ain't gonna like this ^

I think Croom's mom knows and understands a lot more than you think. Most likely she appreciate CDD keeping a promise to not risk her son's health. He has a hamstring problem right now, pushing him before it's fully healed is just making things worse.

That out of the way, I think we will see three things, JH and CP are our matinee guys, true. But starting this game we will see the unleashing of a much improved Zach Rogers and the coming out of Jason(?) Carter.

I don't know enough about Alton to say much. But someone named "Pig" who is as fit as opposed to being just fat suggests some positive things. If you've every had to catch and wrestle a pig to the ground you know they're deceptively quick and darn strong. Handling them is anything but a piece of cake. Actually, you'd rather not have to deal with them if it involves chasing and trying manhandle them.

I want to believe our running game is real and will show up in Athens. But I do believe we will start this game to see the fuller set of receiving weapons. Perhaps this will be the age of the The Volunteers Aerial Circus, Inc.

To be honest I am not sure it matters who we put in at receiver because I am not sure that Bray knows how to check down to anything past his 1 or 2. He has a bad problem with eyeballing his receiver the whole route and that in itself is killing us right now. I just want Bray to figure out what it takes to be a SEC QB at this point.

Read the post below yours....it's mostly correct. Also, you are welcome to put me on ignore if you wish. If you don't however, you should learn not to take message boarding too seriously.

TNBV, sadly Fade Route is right. He speaks a sort of truth depending on how you interpret it. You have to think of him as something like this:

Yep, we are much more effective when multiple receivers are involved. See USC 2 years ago, 2nd half.

I'd agree my point is/was you have to get your best playmakers equally involved. IMO their order is.
JH - just due to familiarity with Bray
CP - actually has more potential after the catch
MR - middle of the field
ZR - soften up coverage
Whoever else can step up

Agree with OP. When you have a big guy like McCullers you have to use him. Play your defense, dont change who plays for them, maybe just the scheme. He could have been causing problems all night for their QB. Just not smart coaching IMO. As far as Croom goes, we do need some guys to step up even it is Freshman. Who cares what year as long as they are talented and can play.
NOW, the RB position. Marlin Lane should be playing hands down. He can run more aggresive and make people miss much better than Neal. He fumbled in the Florida game I think and didn't get much time since. Neal has fumbled also, as long as Lane doesn't show a habbit of it he should be the guy IMO.

I understand the Lane as underdog talk but if he were a true starter he'd have already stolen that job. That's the issue no one is far and away the best back because neither is a top SEC back. Show me one TD run where either broke multiple tackles or truly made something out of nothing. They take what they're given and not much more.

Looks like Pig Howard is more game ready. Put Devrin in the slot, don't play Watson at all, I don't think the coaches trust Croom yet . He is not a good route runner, lacks speed and is a slow learner , but physically has unlimited potential. These are the reasons why he was not ranked higher in recruiting

wow, put Dervin in the slot, for what ? He is slow and the only time he needs to be seeing the field is on KO return but he cant take one because he is slow..At RB he is way to slow and he brings nothing to the slot spot. You threw everything out there but said Croom sucked and Im calling BS on that.Croom has had a Hammy so your thoughts on him are just that thoughts.Just like there was a reason Dervin was not ranked higher than he was coming out of high school. You dog Croom but want to put Dervin in the slot. That tells me you really dont have a clue.

I respect you but just don't think that's what UT needs from Bray. Anyone who is open needs to become #1. Use Hunter as a diversion. Surprise UGA with one of the guys who hasn't posted big numbers yet. I like Rivera but not nearly as much as Downs. If Downs is healthy... throw him the stinking ball. Line both Lane and Neal up in the backfield then motion Neal out... he's proven he can go deep and catch the ball.

Do ANYTHING but let Bray try to force the ball into JH, CP, or MR against a talented secondary. If these other receivers start hurting UGA then you'll get bigger plays from JH and CP. But as we sit, DC's know how to defend Bray. The ones who have talented DB's have proven they can limit and beat him.

Croom is a very good player. Two years ago... he'd have been a starter.

Devrin is not slow by any stretch of the imagination.

Watson is young but has great speed and decent size.

Howard looks like a good player as well.

There's plenty of talent. They have to play to potential and have to be coached well.

But all of this is moot if Bray does not learn to find the open guy.

I really think they are just missing on this one. Neal may be a bit faster but I think Lane would have broken several of those shoestring tackles that Neal gets taken down on and turned some of those runs into the big gainers we all want and need. He just hasn't been given as much of a chance in the game. He can make people miss much better also and he seems to run a bit harder. Some guys turn it up in a game more than practice and I think that the case with Lane.

CJG likes Neal. Neal has continued to improve and was probably the one bright spot vs UF.

I do not understand why Lane isn't seen as the 2nd guy but the coaches have made it clear that they are still looking for someone to compliment Neal. Apparently the competition isn't really very close right now.

Call Jimmy Cheek and Dave Hart. No need to even have a coaching search. We got all the answers right here.

I know you guys already know this, because you know everything, but the reason players like Bowles, Croom, and Howard aren't seeing the field early and often is probably because we used a lot of snaps in camp to focus on getting Patterson ready to go. All the physical talent in the world, which these guys seem to have, doesn't put you on the same page with the QB. You do that through reps, and the number of reps you can get in one camp is finite. Not to mention we spent a lot of them on a guy who isn't here anymore.

If Da'Rick is still on the team, this is a non-issue because we've got 3 guys with experience as well as CP. If we go through camp without Da'Rick, it's a non-issue because we would have gotten some of these guys some reps so they'd be ready. But that stuff happens and it doesn't mean that these guys won't be great, or that they're slow learners (smh).

This is the meat of the schedule and it's time to take the training wheels off of Croom. We need that 3rd BIG target (4 counting TE Rivera) on the field (at the same time), in order for us to dish out more than they can handle.

We also need to use him on designed running plays. Should be able to swallow up their smaller DB's, when blocking. Getting sick of seeing us waste all this size and talent...just like we dicked around against Akron...never putting McCullers in.

I don't care what package they were in. Something's terribly wrong leaving your most dominant DL...by far...on the bench.

We want tall WR's...good. Then let's freakin' use what we already have, for Pete's sake.
I would like to see Croom as well but I'd like to see us use Pig Howard as well. Kid is legit, play him.

Just tried to call Jimmy Cheek but he is heading down to the Pike house to get loaded......butt cheeks....get it?

Da'Rick gone so we gots to play the cards we're dealt

I wouldn't be surprised if we kept McCullers off the field so Georgia would have limited tape on him. Also would preserve his endurance for the meat of the schedule.

Where do you people come up with this crap? Do you know how ridiculous this sounds? Tape on a nose guard? So we limited his snaps against NCST and Florida so Georgia wouldn't have any tape. Good Lord
