Got No Problem (Josh Dobbs discussion merged)

He beat Vandie last year until the refs throw a flag on Pig Howard on a call I have never seen called in my long storied history of watching the sport and little playing history. All together an extensive history of the sport though. That game was 17-7 with his late TD run that was called back.

He may give us the best chance to win.

You do know it's possible that Dobbs could get a few of those missed passes back with first team reps? He had a sure TD in the end zone and misfired...he seemed to keep making mental notes in the heat of battle whilst keeping his cool...we haven't seen the best of Dobbs yet IMO...the upcoming D's are going to have to adjust to the adjustments.

You guys arguing against it don't understand all the things discussed with parents when a kid signs, and rs is a big factor for many who realize their future isn't in the nfl.

Sounds like some BS rumor (not surprised, when you had so many rumors about Gruden accepting the job)....trying to save face for Butch.

Don't buy a bit of it. Families don't dictate who plays/redshirts, etc. Coaches do. I like Butch, but in light of the Spring game (the biggest scrimmage all year until the fall kickoff), how can you flat out miss it in your evaluations of Dobbs?

I mean he has stated repeatedly that you CANNOT properly evaluate a player without live game reps. Who else have they wrongly blown off? If Dobbs was deemed 3rd string they really f-ed up their QB assessment, and called their judgement into question greatly.

I believe Blair has likewise been underestimated....cause he doesn't bench what they would like? Pfffft. We NEEDED Dobbs (best fit for Bajakian's offense) and Blair this season.

Don't think he did miss the evaluation. He wanted Dobbs to redshirt and felt Worley would be a good QB. He maybe talked to the parents and let them feel they were making the decision that was already his plan. Worley goes down and the redshirt goes away. He talks to the parents because it's just the right thing to do. Redshirt gets burned because NP can't get the job done.

Pure speculation but is as logical a conclusion as saying the coaches can't evaluate. I call BS on your BS because you don't know any more than I do...and when all is said and done...there's usually some layer of truth behind many a rumor.

Exactly. +1

Dobbs was the #3, wasn't going to play this year. He comes off of the bench, shows moxie and fight against bama. This kid is a gamer, the team responded to his energy. He is The guy. We beat Florida with Dobbs. I said it.:)

I have felt the same way about Peterman. However at some point you have to step up and he hasn't.

The opinions of you, I and every other member on VN regarding the evaluation of. Peterman is completely irrelevant.

CBJ gave them both a fair shot and played the better player. I'm good with that. Everyone should be.

Well, we haven't been getting the ball to North enough. He's big and has great hands--but I'm wondering if he has trouble getting open. Even on that great catch he made last night along the sideline, he wasn't open at all--ball went between the arms of a defender.

Pig is another great play maker we have not given the ball to enough.

....he is playing for The UNIVERSITY of Tennessee. All those big buildings around Neyland stadium a part of a school. They do all kinds of fancy book learnin' in there.

Josh Dobbs is a student first kind of player. Butch working with parents is awesome.

So that's how Peterman ended up ahead of Dobbs on the depth chart? There is no other way to explain it.

A mobile qb is the answer to several of our problems. We MUST have a dual threat qb in the offense we run. It will even make our o line look much better . Dobbs should have been playing all year. We are not a fabulous team and do not have the luxuary of having one of our best players riding the pine. With Dobbs we have a realistic possibility of getting to a bowl game.

I understand everyone excitement about Dobbs again. But OP has a good point. Once you get the boy thinking to much he seems to misfire. It was the case with him last year and it started to show in the last drive of the game last night.

Dobbs has great talent but he can over think the game and then not rely on his physical talents.

Very interesting take. I know Butch is vested in the kids and their families. Would not surprise me one bit.

I'm sure it gets discussed and in Dobbs case, maybe there was a plan to give him a redshirt year. But plans change. Again I don't know if Coach Jones asked for "permission", but let's say it's true Coach Jones askes and Dobbs' parents say "no, we don't want him to play. You said you would give him a rs year and we want him to have it. Find someone else" Then what?

My point is that it should never get to the "then what?"

NORTH: (On Dobbs) Our chemistry is excellent. We're best friends and roommates. I know everything about him.

Has it been officially stated that Dobbs will start from now on?

In the post game coach said that the competition is open week to week and that the best practice gets the start.

Here's how I see it. Dobbs is the immediate future I feel. But other teams have tape on him now and he is mistake prone and inaccurate. I'm all good with starting Dobbs and letting him make his mistakes, but if Worley gets healthy soon and has a better practice, he will be back. Coach likes experience and Worley just doesn't make the mistakes. Dobbs will be very inconsistent. I'm fine with that, Butch will not be.

Dobbs helps us--but as I've mentioned elsewhere he seems to have a bit of an odd throwing motion that I think affects his passing accuracy. It is not entirely fluid. His motion seems similar to Worley's, which isn't ideal. We'll see how it plays out.

That statement isn't true for this year. All he can do is throw int's or fumble the ball in the last half of the season.

Wait, Worley doesn't make mistakes? I can name several mistakes Worley has made actually.
