Got a good feeling about the Bama game tomorrow.

any time a system is new it will take time for the kinks to get worked out. Alabama is still Bama, and Saban loves to put his thumb on new coaches when he faces them to make sure in recruiting he has video of him pounding the daylights out of teams he is recruiting against. That being said, we have a lot going for us, Alabama isn't particularly expecting a tough game from us. Big thing is we need to expect Alabama to give us nothing, play in a way that doesn't expect to catch a break, and then if we are lucky enough to get one, make it count.

I'm usually an optimist and I really try to approach things (especially sports and Vols in particular) with a level head and remove emotion which can greatly skew common sense but I don't see many reasons at all to feel good about this Bama game. I'll be there cheering for the Vols as usual but the matchups aren't favorable AT ALL for us. Bama is bigger, faster, and stronger than we are at every position. Then the depth issue will conquer any good thing we may accomplish in the first three quarters I'm afraid. If the Vols could somehow play with Bama for most of the game then I think most reasonably minded fans would appreciate the effort and it would continue the upward trend we have going. Is winning possible?...of course its possible...just highly improbable...Sorry...JMO of course....

The Auburn win was good, their defense is better than Bamas, but their offense wasnt even in the same stratosphere as the Tides. This game will be a blowout, Bama will go up 21-0, UT will get a score in the 3rd to narrow it to 21-7, then the Bama flood gates will open and the game will end Bama 45, UT 10. I will be looking for continued improvement of the O-line and the defense. I fear Guarantano will be smacked around in this one more than usual, I hope I am wrong. I want UT to win, but realistically, I hope they come through with no significant injuries....

We no doubt stepped up our game shortly after playing (too early really) three top ten teams on our schedule. Wish we could go back and play them. Share my enthusiasm?

If your enthusiasm is we will upset Bama, then no.

I think UT took some good steps forward in the UGA and Aub games, but Bama is in another stratosphere. This UT team should not be judged by what happens against Bama.

I do think if UT continues to show development that we have a good chance in the rest of the games we play this season other than Bama, but I just want to get through that game without significant injuries.

Sorry, but I share my enthusiasm with no one. It's all mine.

Seriously, tomorrow will be worse than a root canal. Just make it through the game healthy and don't give Bama anything cheap. Make them work for their points and don't turn the ball over or making stupid mistakes.

If it’s 21-0 before 2nd quarter we are screwed. If that happened it likely would be 35-3 half and the final would be 55-13 if we were lucky. If Hurts plays the score likely won’t be as high then if Tua was playing. That’s going to be the interesting thing. He might play a quarter he might play one series then Hurts take over. For Bama to beat LSU in 2 weeks they need a healthy Tua. Bama needs to be careful in this game. If Tua goes down for the season that alone could derail their title hopes. We all saw what happened in last year’s championship game....but who knows what happens if Hurts has to finish the season out.

I’m just looking for a great game tomorrow and let the chips fall where they may. In all honesty if we stay healthy I think Bama could be our last loss of 2018 depending on the bowl and opponent should we get to 6 wins. I think it’s highly probable we reach at least that many but if we finish 5-0 I would literally be blown away.....and as always GBO!!!! VFL!

The way the team has played and the way they beat Auburn makes optimism justifiable. The question, then, is how optimistic is realistic?
What Tenn did well last week was something worth bragging about:
OL pass protection vs a really good front 7. The WRs and JG played out of their minds against a solid secondary. The way the defense played in the 2nd half and how they made sure to get those turnovers.
The energy (and even disciple) they are playing with.
However, in order to beat Bama, its not just about them having an off day or the calls or balls bouncing your way. You have to play a complete game in all areas because they are good in all areas.
The run game is still non existent.
The pass rush not only looked better than it is, it took a hit with Kongbos injury.
The punt return game is non existent.
About the only places UT has an advantage in is the kicking game and the fact Tua hasnt really been tested yet outside of the NCG, which I know was big but Georgia hadnt prepared for him and started playing soft.
So what is reasonable expectations?
Tua playing the entire game is a start.
How about the defense making plays and putting the offense in postion to be successful, and the offense capitalizing on good field position/big plays and letting the D rest.
Even on turnovers.
No costly penalties.
More rushing yards then last week.
Dont let Bama jump out to a couple TDs right off the bat to where the game feels out of reach before the 2nd Q.
If they lose by less than 3 TDs I would say thats a great sign that last week wasnt a fluke and 7- 5 is a real possibility.

Make it thru the game healthy is exactly whT Butch did against Bama it was ridiculous how obviously scared they were and we sll complained. Pruitt plays to win.

I am right there with ya, I am starting to believe what Pruitt tells recruits "This will probably be the worst year with me being the head football coach, because it’s the first year." I would love to see the Vols win out after Bama, all the teams left on the schedule are vulnerable and very winnable.

I don't this Auburns D is better. Look at the scores at halftime, Bama plays backups most of the 2nd half and that makes the stats look totally different. We are not as good on D as in the past but the numbers don't reflect how good we are. But I do agree with you about the depth and score.

When was the last time both teams enter this game undefeated? Just curious?

I have taken the same approach as I did the Auburn game with little or any hope; however, I do think that this may be closer than we think, if Hurts is the QB. CJP has an inside advantage knowing the Tide inside and out. CJP's knowledge will give our team an advantage but it may not be enough.

Most importantly, I forgot that they have a brick layer for an assistant coach which could also provide us with an edge if he can bend Saban's ear. However, I don't see that happening either.

Saban is not interested in any x and o talk from Butch. I suspect Butch's only value to that program is scouring over HS film, and phone calls to HS contacts he has made over the years, looking for talent. Saban is not going to let Butch sit in strategy sessions unless unless it is to fetch coffee and donuts.

I don't expect to win but coming out of this game with 0 injuries I would consider a win for us.

The annual “I have a feeling thread”.

Will gladly eat crow, but Bama runs away with this one. I just want to see improvement and and enjoy the rest of the season now that the schedule murderer’s row is over.
