GOPers pass law okaying business discrimination against gays

Next time the 7-11 guy says "no shoes, no shirt, no service", I'll call him racist and have Obama force him to sell me my Slurpee. :)

Keep in mind, I do not approve of gay marriage. However, I do business with gay couples. I can think of nothing more hateful or bigoted than refusing business because I am morally judging someone else. If i live in a society that allows gay marriage, then I need to make a choice, and yes it may require sacrifice. I understand both sides of this issue, but for the life of me I can't understand how someone's religious rights are infringed by providing services such as floral and baking. Take the bakers for example. It's not as if someone is asking them to design a cake with a picture of two men getting it on. In that case, you would equally refuse a request if someone wanted a cake with a man and women getting it on.

I'm honestly trying to understand the legislation. To be honest, as someone who deplores big government, this makes me very nervous.

Great post.

I have also done plenty of business with gay people. Heck, I even spent 10 years wholesaling to florists. Most of the florists are women, but gay men are well represented. They are not unlike hair dressers.

If you see a man running a flower shop, odds are that he is gay. I was born into my flower shop, and I am certain that I would have ever chosen that profession otherwise. From my wholesaling days, I had about 60 flower shops that I visited weekly, and there are hardly any owners less than 50 years old.

My point was that it is unfair to tell a person that they shouldn't be in that profession if it bothered them to do a gay wedding, when the industry is all they know, and all that they ever wanted to do. When they got in the profession, gay weddings were not an option. The florists that I know have all been around the business for about 30 years or more.

I am not a gay marriage supporter , but my views aren't based on religion. Mine are based upon why marriage and a family unit should be sanctioned by society in the first place.

How about all the negative Yelp reviews? Any problem with that? Or is that fair game?

These people were living a peaceful life, not bothering anyone and minding their own business. Maybe all the SJWs should do the same.
I heard somewhere that all the negative Yelp reviews were generated by just a few people, and that a Go Fund Me account had already raised $70,000 for the pizza shop.

It was all fun and games till Memories Pizza got a scathing 1 star review on yelp.

Slight veer from thread focus for a moment.
I don't want to discriminate against those who enjoy identical equipment. I do, however, want to discriminate against parents with bratty, unruly children. Will this legislation help me do that?

It doesn't work like that. You can look and see that the individuals leaving the bogus 1 star reviews are from all over the place and have left reviews for many other businesses in most cases.

Low review counts are often filtered out and listed below the actual reviews as un-recommended. Currently there are 1046 un recommended reviews.

Then it sounds like everything will be fine when folks settle down right?

Firstly, yelp is what it is. It is fair game, but anyone can go on there and say anything about any business. It's the wikipedia of customer satisfaction. I trust price ranges, health scores, and menu selection before Yelp.

You don't seem to have ever owned a business so let me make this easy for you to understand.

As a local, small business, it's generally an unspoken rule that you, as a business, refrain from taking a stance on a hot, divisive issue. It is an entity designed to make money as well as provide a service. Anything outside of that (even sponsoring specific charities that some may disagree with) will only hurt your business.

No, these owners were not "minding their business" in the literal sense of the word. They were being reckless with it, and now they've paid the price. Did they deserve bomb threats? No one does. Was their business likely to decline and eventually shut down after foolishly expressing an opinion on something as relevant and often incendiary as same sex couples? Yes.

Stupid business owners deserve to have their business fail for operating it in a stupid manner. Hell, I'm 26 and about to start my third business and I knew that.

It is a good idea to never take a stance on a heated issue in a professional capacity if one can help it.

I take it you are cool with the fake, hateful Yelp reviews. Not suprised.

Btw. Their gofundme account has over $200K

A small business can also generate community goodwill by supporting things that are supported by the area. Even hot-button issues.
But I agree with you on the larger concept. Stay out of the fray and make that money.

You need to start a new religion with core tenets based on humor and sarcasm. I could be wooed.

Also, I don't give a **** about 200k on GoFundMe. No amount of money in the world will make a ****ty business owner better at running his business.

We've noticed. Can't upset the SJWs or they will send in death threats

I'll make a deal with you. You quit pissing and moaning about social justice warriors and virtually repeating your posts over and over again, and I'll stop cursing since that gets your undies in a wad.

A tax free business playing to my strengths. I like it.
