GOP votes to sue Obama to require enforcement of a law they oppose

You don't have to, but you have the choice. Freedom baby! Some employers will provide it simply because you will get slightly larger rooms, cable TV and nicer hospital meals. Not many people decide to purchase private health insurance outside of the work provided private insurance because the NHS does a good job.

What percentage of people in the UK opt out of health insurance and choose to just pay their way?

This thread in general is a great example of why you can't have an actual discussion.

So much arrogance it's frightening.

Please carry-on. It's been entertaining at least.

Ah you got me there! :) But then again I think the provision of healthcare is a right not a choice and we probably disagree there.

I met a husband and wife on vacation in Florida recently. Both work for the NHS in Cardiff. She's a nurse and he is an administrator. If you show up at the emergency room and are bleeding to death you better have an insurance card or you won't get treated.

I don't want to start calling you names, but this may be the dumbest post I have seen on VolNation.

You may be mixed up in your thoughts or have misinterpreted them because when you travel abroad in Europe you need an insurance card but not in the UK. It's a universal system, we don't even have national health insurance cards.

I disagree. I think OP's original point -- that the GOP called for a delay in the mandate, Obama delayed the mandate, and the GOP are suing him for doing what they wanted -- is valid.

That in the GOP's view it had to be by their hand is kind of weak to me, especially when the effect of what they are doing is spending millions of taxpayer dollars to FORCE the administration to enforce a part of the law that the GOP itself says bad, in order to get votes.

I find that absolutely mind bogglingly dumb, and the height of partisan bickering stalling any sort of progress on anything.

I never said it is what libertarians desire, but it is what libertarianism leads to in practice. Like it or not a strong state is needed in modern society.

Is this why the strong state of Great Brittan is now irrelevant in world affairs now?

Both sides are stalling. And maybe this will prevent people in the future from not doing their jobs and reading before they vote.

You never seem to want to fix the problem.

You should be outraged a guy you voted in crafted a law so bad he had to break the law to prevent it from taking place. You don't seem to care.

Maybe you are correct the republicans actions are partisan, but I for the life of me can't understand why you live with blinders on.

Do you think Medicare was enacted just for the sake of it? I'd like to think most laws are enacted to solve a problem.

Seems most of our laws are being created to under the guise of solving societal problems but are really intended to solve political challenges. The Civil Rights Act and follow on Great Society programs that led to government intervention into health care et al, did go a long way to fix some major societal issues in our country. But, the way they were enacted and, most especially, who led the way, showed they were in fact more about ensuring political power than anything else. In short, we took a large portion of our population and freed them from the oppression of Jim Crow, then made them dependent on the state to live. And we sold them the idea that only the Democrat Party would ensure their "livelihood" going forward.

You're saying Rand Paul supports War Lords brutalizing people? No elections and rule by force?

Look up the definition of ideology hoggy :) And there are elections in Somalia, though they are relatively pointless. The main point on Somalia is that it has no formal economy.

Like Socialism, I am getting the impression that Americans have now concocted a unique definition for Libertarianism too! I mean rather than changing the definition of the ideology to fit your views why not create a new word?! Makes things a lot easier.

We did, thank you very much. We're screwing up by moving back towards European ideals.

You already started the insults. That is not what the two employees who work for NHS said. I didn't get mixed up or misinterpret what they said. If you are a foreign visitor and don't have an insurance card you will not be treated. Why do you think we should want to be like you guys? You can't even protect yourself. Why would you want us to change from a free market capitalist system that saved your asses more than once and was the shinning beacon for freedom for the world.? We don't want to be like you.

I don't mind that they wanted to register their disapproval of it. I just don't see the need for that yet again, since they have voted to repeal it so many times. I mean, we get it already.

When it gets to the point that you sue to enforce a law you say is bad, to overcome a delay that you actually called for, its just nutty to me.

They certainly don't live with you in your mud hut Hog.

I would rather live in a mud hut here than England. Plus I would bet my mud hut is bigger than your flat and I can piss off my back deck, right into the pig pen.
