We have had some really good to great talent over the last 10 years - we just didn't have the coaches to polish this talent and produce wins!! These kids work their butts off . . . and I am so glad that they are VFLs!!

Excellent way to word it. They looked very well coached and polished. They have worked their tails off! Really excited to see how they look this coming season after they’ve had more time in this system and a full off season.

That's the reason why I'm less concerned about the defense next year. Year 2 in the defense system and we will have a lot of sophomore to seniors through the 2 deep on both sides.

I reserve judgement until after the first 3 rounds of the NFL draft.
Good coaching and player improvement provides very little competitive advantage.
ALL competent programs do this.
Vol fans are simply not used to being competent.
I hope every ex Vol gets a shot at big NFL dollars.
Late round picks and undrafted free agents are nothing to pump sunshine about nor will it impress recruits.

I was really talking more along the lines of how much more crisp and explosive our overall athletic ability looks compared to previous staff’s development. Also, I was hoping to point out that both of those players are from completely different sides of the ball. One from the defense and the other from the offense and both completely dominated their opponent. To me, it’s an indicator that we finally have a staff that develops talent like others have posted.

Having competent coaching helps.

Considering we won more games with less talent in '21 vs. '20, I'd say good coaching and player improvement provide a very substantial advantage.

I would say It's more of not having ENOUGH "good to great " talent at the same time.

We're still putting guys in the NFL well after the 1996 2004 peak era. But it's the not same amount, and Bama, UGA, Florida have been putting more.

Put our 2012 offense with our 2008 defense and we probably beat any team.

But that composition of talent is pretty much what Bama has EVERY YEAR.
So you're correct but also our good to great recruiting isn't enough because of the league we're in.

It reminds me of a couple of seasons ago, I was watching early practice videos and trying to be excited about players that looked rusty and slow. Then I watched some Bama video at the same time and they looked game ready. I didn't look at anymore Bama video. But, our guys look, in this small sample, look pretty dang good.
Go Vols!
