Good to see this from Kiffin....

I agree that it's good to see Kiffin making a morning class check, but come on, it's the second day of class (which is actually the first day of class for Tuesday-Thursday classes). If your not there the first day your dropped from the class roster.

Even Ramar Smith showed up for our first day of freshman English. But that was the last time I saw him.

The Thorton center is at least responsible for providing notetakers for the athletes. I remember I had a class with Jacques McClendon, Jonathan Crompton, and Dan Williams over the summer and the Office of Disability Services was taking way too long to let me get a note taker, since my hand that was in a splint (I sliced it open on some landscape edging) and the teacher (actually the same instructor who is teaching the class in the first paragraph) let me get the notes from the same girl who was taking notes for McClendon and Williams. I am not sure if the Thorton center does anything else, but I would imagine that is who gets the reports on who is attending class, doing well in class, etc. I guess they then bug the teachers to reach out to the athletes more? Seems like you should bug the students to reach out to the teachers...it is their responsibility. The teachers have tons of other things to worry about.

Not every athlete has a note taker, but yes, if the athlete doesn't show up within 15 minutes of the class start time, he/she is free to leave, reports it to Thornton, and still gets paid. Granted most of us would stay anyway, which looking back didn't help the athlete at all.

Barring disability or injury, if you aren't capable of taking your own notes you have no business being in an institute of higher learning.

Well, there goes D1 football, basketball, and baseball.

I don't think so. It would be on a different level perhaps, but sports would survive without illiterate players. Why should kids that want to be in the classroom lose seats to athletes that have no desire to be there? Whatever happened to the idea that school was for learning? Why should colleges be the NFL's farm system?
