All three parts were excellent reads. Should be a mandatory read for the reporters covering the hiring process. TN fans could also benefit from reading the synopsis to be able to describe to our non-UT friends what happened and why.

Most disturbing part IMO? Peyton. He's caving to Haslam and the almighty $.

Terrific read and provides more detail and links to the problem than some similar articles. Thanks for the link! Very similar to what goes on in corporate America and politics today... very little honesty and real team play. Hope this gets turned around quickly... Go Vols!

So now two articles by two different journalists that reference the Haslam / Manning connection. Certainly begs the question as to where Peyton's loyalties actually lie.

Who is the actual author of this series ? Although it's an interesting read, I question some of the facts, Wasn't Dan Mullen, Currie's first choice ? Plus did Currie spend several days in the Bahamas or was he there for two days ? Additionally Currie had phone and internet service on that trip, so it wasn't like he was prevented from working on the coaching search while in the Bahamas.

I know nothing about the article's author, but if you print out this story, take an orange marker and highlight every allegation that is also substantiated or documented (i.e., more than just the writer's opinion of what possibly happened, or could have been the reason why it happened)...

I'm not sure you'll find it worth taking the cap off the marker.

I challenge fans to re-read this with a critical, questioning eye. I'm not saying the writer doesn't believe what he's written, I'm just saying it's based on way too much speculation.

That's the biggest myth with this whole coaching search. Mullen was never an option. It was Schiano from the start. That was the guy Jimmy Haslam picked and ordered Currie to get. Mullen got nothing more than a cursory phone call. Him being the first choice is something the media created. Just like everything with this story.

The media lies. People should know that by now.

Thanks for sharing the blog and I wish the college football fans in our country read this excellent analysis of what really happened at UT in this hire process. I hope Phil Fulmer can hire a candidate all of VolNation can be proud of as our next HC.

Speculation, really?
Virtually everything being spoken or written about the "search" and the UT fans is -- speculation. That speculation is ongoing. This article brings up lots of interesting and thought provoking points. Read it for what it is. ESPN and other talking heads have been telling everyone who will listen how stupid the UT fan base is .......more speculation.

People should stop referring to what happened in trying to find the next football coach at UT as a "search".

Little jimmie told Currie who to hire as sure as I am typing this or at the least that is my speculation

Is the part about the members of the national media, Herbstreit, Smith, and Howard, sharing the same agent as Schiano speculation?

In my eyes, the big story here, the one with national repercussions, is social media's impact has changed the game.

When the national media starts talking about the Tennessee coaching search I listen to see if they talk about Gruden as if they think all Tennessee fans are expecting him to come. If they do this, I think they are out of touch and possibly have an agenda. While most Tennessee fans would be happy with Gruden, what they really want is a legitimate coach. They are tired of the clown show that has been on the sidelines for the past 10 years.

They are also tired of the people/process who have put the clowns on the sideline.
