Good Pub?

haven't spent a ton of time at these places recently but will hit them up when visiting. a local may know more/better.

Depends on what you are looking for. To me a "pub" means just a hang out spot vs party, that is dark, lots of wood, and just focuses on beer and food vs crowds, cocktails, and music.

Woodruffs/The Downtown Grill and Brewery on Gay street right downtown is still one of my favorite places to visit. Good vibes imo. Food is decent for bar food, and they have home brews that are better than most domestics. admittedly this could be rose covered glasses from nostalgia. doesn't get packed, and is definitely more focused on seating rather than standing around at the bar. but there is plenty of bar space to be had if that is your thing. They have pool and a golf arcade game upstairs. you aren't going to blown away but its got a good consistent vibe that if its your thing you will keep going back to.

Jig & Reel/Boyds is another good spot. its an Irish Pub. Down in Old City. definitely more of a hang out at the bar or stand vibe here. but still good beer and food, and space to hang out.

Scruffy City Hall is right on Market Square and is a cool spot. multi levels with bars on each floor, definitely fits the "scruffy" label. not sure if it still does, but there was a shared roof top with another bar. definitely more of a party spot with crowds.

Sutrees on Gay St. is also another favorite of mine. they focus on high gravity beers. much more focused on seated drinking than standing drinking. IIRC they have expanded to have a lot of arcade games.

Agreed on all of these.
Clancy’s is a good spot for drinks.
The Local Smokey is fun.
The Kennedy is a nice place.
My secret work hideout is Frank and Georges! Great place to do some work on the laptop, send emails and knock down a few cold ones.
Thursday $2 miller lites 🤫
Have my girl Sarah make you an old fashion!!

Suttrees has some fun pinball games. The James Bond is fun.
Have yourself a Fosters oil can, next time you’re in there.

And, though not a traditional dark and woody pub, nor emphasising food very much, I still like The Casual Pint, both the one on Northshore and the one in Maryville, as it it has good selection of craft drafts and not too pricey.

there used to be one downtown, half a block off of market square. looks like its Knox Brew Hub now. looks like they kept the same vibes.

Fosters, isn’t that the beer they drink in Australia?
What are you doing drinking the fancy expensive stuff?

$2 stiff??
Where do you drink, because I want to go!!
I was thinking of being willing to pay any amount for a Lite. I only buy them for smoking drunk chickens. Not a fan much anymore of the teenage beers we thought were good. Don't mind a Miller High Life at all.
