The word “commitment” attributed to a recruit has become a misnomer. Need to coin a new word, calling him/her a currentment. If you don’t sign a player out of high school, there’s a good chance you might get that player on the rebound in a year or four through the transfer portal. Now many programs are sustaining or gaining championship contention status via the portal. It’s the sigh of the times for us traditionalists. (Some players have been in the transfer portal so often that they could be classified as portal floozies!)

In any event, it’s encouraging to see Coach Harper building relationships with so many recruits in this upcoming class even though she admits to being behind the “eight ball.” After all, you’re never really out of any player’s radar until her college eligibility has expired.

putbacks, like you I recognized the article was old and two of the coaches must not have followed their own advice (smile). However, the writer did identify a variety of cultural issues and the importance of what we read from the recruiting team of carefully observing the players the LVs are considering. The simple example, expected playing time upon arriving. and of course, recruiting with an understanding of the parents' involvement in their daughter.

The truth must contain the fact many women BB players now have a very good shot at a professional career if they can put it all together. The old days of watching older players play for your turn to shine to be perhaps two or maybe one final year after paying your dues no longer works for young people. Nobody gets better sitting on the bench watching everybody else play, nobody. Lots of young women and men who are competitors just will not oblige systems that want them to toe the line like that. Bama today for instance lost a 5 star sophomore LB, 6'5" +250 pounds, that was named a freshman all SEC in football. If you're actually a good player you're not toleraing sitting for very long these days.
