Lol at those who are disappointed in this news. Have you seen our special teams lately?? This is great! GBO!

Exactly! #1 kicker and #1 punter, who wouldn't want that? Especially with a crappy special teams like we've had lately. Why would you wanna put kicking, FG and punting all three on Palardys shoulders? Every little piece helps when your rebuilding! GBO!

This is very good news. It proves to the naysayers that CDD and his team know what is needed and know how to go out there and get it. Special teams have been horrible for the past few years. They are still recruiting for the 2010 team to fill in the holes this year and in the future.

People need to understand we need quality depth in EVERY position. Adding another stud kicker does nothing but improve our roster. Dang there are negative people on this site....

This is the only thing i could find to clarify the transfer situation (It's from ncca.org). I think it has to be clarified in the release from his LOI...I really don't know enough about these specific rules

-The general rule for all student-athletes transferring from one four-year institution to another four-year institution is that they must spend one academic year in residence at the school to which they transfer before they may be eligible for competition. However, you may be eligible immediately upon transfer if you meet one of several transfer exceptions. [Note: During a student-athlete's initial year of collegiate enrollment, he or she only may use a transfer exception if they have been certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center as a qualifier.]

The most common transfer exception is the One-Time Transfer Exception. To be eligible to use this exception: (a) a student-athlete must be transferring to another four-year institution to participate in a sport other than Division I baseball, Division I basketball, Division I men's ice hockey and Division I bowl subdivision football (A participant in championship subdivision football at the institution to which the student is transferring may use this exception only if the participant transferred to the certifying institution from an institution that sponsors bowl subdivision football and has two or more seasons of competition remaining in football or the participant transfers from a football championship subdivision institution that offers athletically related financial aid in football to a football championship subdivision institution that does not offer athletically related financial aid in football); (b) the student-athlete's first transfer from one four-year college to another four-year college; (c) the student-athlete must have been eligible academically had he or she remained at their previous institution; and (d) the student-athlete must obtain a written release from the current institution stating that they have no objection to the student-athlete's use of the exception.

your act is growing old

recruits that can win in the SEC. We are not Vandy, Kentucky or Miss. St, so tell your man to start recruiting better. Getting a commit from a guy who was second string at USC is not what I would call the way for UT to get back to prominence.

I don't see people disappointed that we got Darr, just that they were expecting something bigger when Dooley came out with the "good news on the way" tweet.

To be fair, Dooley said good news. The media blew it up to be bigger than it was. This is good news, so Dooley wasn't lying.

Dooley didn't say "great news on the way that will change the face of Tennessee football and make us championship contenders again!"

All he said was that good news was on the way and the news truly is good. Having disappointment over having the potentially best P/K tandem in the nation is laughable....

Oh and btw, this sounds like disappointment to me... V

Disappointing.

I really hope it's not the punter.....

Again, the disappointment is not in the fact that we got Darr. It's just that they were hoping there was something else about to happen that would be much bigger news (e.g., Bryce Brown staying or a stud lineman from USC transferring to UT).

And again, with the state of our special teams which lost OUR GAME AGAINST THE EVENTUAL NATIONAL CHAMPION, receiving the #1 punter in the nation is good news for a program that is rebuilding, so disappointment to me shows that a lot of people on this board don't have a grip on reality....

(i.e. thinking a benchwarmer at USC or a tailback who has shown no interest in coming back here is "big" news...)

Pat forde also sounds disappointed

Pat Forde ▶ Tennessee coach Derek Dooley hinted at "good news" forthcoming earlier today. The news is: Vols have signed an elite punter. Not a joke.

We are rebuilding. We have to start to put a good product on the field before we just "recruit better."

Stop whining.

This is great news! We really need him to improve our special teams play. One question though--where the scholly come from? I didn't think we had any left.

While a good punter is "good" news, it's not worth the hype a tweet from Dooley's twitter account will generate.

And I'll say UGA probably has the best kicking tamdem in the nation, FWIW.
