So my son, who is a fresh at our local high school, has been playing on the JV this year.
When the JV season ended the coach said that a few of the freshman would move up to varsity and finish the year practicing with them.
My boy got to move up! :dance2::rock:
Anyway he gets to dress tonight for his first varsity playoff game, but I am not about to bust....ok yes I am! :)

The comparison is that no freshman or even sophomores (maybe one) will start for our team. Some sophomores will will play but only in a backup role.
All starters are juniors and seniors who have had at least 3 years with the same staff and schemes.
All starters have been in the same S&C program for at least 3 years and all have been well "coached up" in that time.
My son said that the upperclassmen and starters have been very willing to help "mentor" the younger guys and that he has learned a ton in just a couple of weeks!

Compare this to where TN is and you can see the stark difference. The fact is, and it pains me to say it, TN is basically a JV squad playing varsity teams.
This will change quite a bit next year though.

In case you are wondering if this has resulted in success on the field:

2009 - Runner up State Champs
2010 - State Champs in a cake walk
2011 - Current Favorites to repeat
2012 - See 2011

Taking my boy to the MTSU game tommorrow, a budy of mine scored some skybox tickets and we can't wait!
GBO!!! :daddy:

He played D tackle in JV all year??? He just turned 15 and is 6'0" but only 165.
Anyway one of the V coaches asked what position he played and when he said DT the coach said no your DE.
He has been getting reps though at guard, DE and OLB.
Hopefully it will be a blowout tonight and gets to see the field. :crossfingers:

It is a great feeling being a freshman and getting called up to practice with the Varsity team the last few weeks of the season. Wearing that varsity jersey to school on a Friday gameday as a freshman is a very cool feeling. Congrats to your son.

State champs last year? Welcome to the big leagues.. I played football (our team sucked), swtiched to rugby during highschool.. Went a lil like this..

2011- State/south title. Ranked 6th in the nation
2010- Lost in states
2009- Won States
2008- Won States
2007- Won States
2006- Won States
2005- League Started

We put together a 68-6 Record in that time span...

Tell your son not to let it all go to his head.. As you can tell we won 4 state titles in a row and got really cocky and got our a$$ handed to us in 2010.. Lost 4 games that season.. Tell him to have fun, not to worry about only winning, thats why we went so far this year..

Also.. Good luck to him! And ... GBO!

Your sons youth is no excuse. If he was talented, had heart and a decent coach he could out play the upperclassmen. Just kidding. Congrats on his success & enjoy the game.

Cant even begin to understand the pride that you must have for your son. My son is fixing to turn two and I can't wait til he starts to play sports. He already loves throwing the football and watching football with me. Good luck to your son

Dad`s proud of sons playing football no need to explain.

Quick story adout my son playing football. Summer of sophmore year I threw passes whenever we could early before work or late after sometimes felt like my arm would fall off. First game catches 63 yard pass for his first TD! COMES to the sideline looks up into the stands sees us and says THATS FOR YOU MOM!!!
