Seems like everyday there's some new controversy on VN. This Gerald Williams situation is crazy, but rather than putting my :twocents: in on something I know nothing about, I'm going to stick with what I know: music. I'm going to start posting different kinds of unknown and under appreciated music that needs more exposure. I'm going to try and describe it also so readers know what they're in for.

Morphine is a three piece band that consists of a two-string slide bass player/vocalist, a sax player and a drummer. Les Claypool cited them as an influence, so I checked them out. Now they're one of my favorite bands. The songs have a groove to them that I find very unique. Very low frequencies for those that like to be low.

Loved them since the mid 90s.. I was fortunate enough to see them play at 328 performance hall in Nashville in '98 or '99. Great show.

Calexico do a great cover of Alone Again Or.

Prefer the Silver Jews with Malkmus. Didn't they play some cave in Tennessee? Cant remember.

Acid Bath is a sludge metal band from Louisiana. They only released two albums, but both of them are great. The lyrics are dark, but the lead singer's voice is awesome. A lot of the songs are about murder, abortion etc. Give e'm a listen, you'll be glad you did.

Dax Riggs of Acid Bath has released some great stuff since as well. More muddy blues-rock. Deadboy and the Elephantmen was the first band, then he released similar styled music under his real name.

Also, Bleed Me an Ocean is one of my personal favorite Acid Bath songs.

I thought The Damned did the original until I saw the movie Bottle Rocket.

great SJ record and song. Haven't listened to that in a decade.

me too on Alone Again or. I had it on a mix tape a friend gave me back in the day. I asked him recently about that song since I heard the Calexico version and he told me about Love - never knew about them but picked up the disc and am digging it.

I mentioned them before and they're debut album is blowing up the charts somewhat unexpectedly, but "The Civil Wars" are an amazing duet. I'm also a fan of Ian McFeron, The Elms (who broke up last year) and Carbon Leaf. I'd recommend all of these artists.
