Good Luck on Saturday

@05_never_again Win the Big 12, yes. I never said consistently fight for the conference title every year. I said every 3-4 years make a run with veteran players. We did in 2016, and we're hopefully doing it again. Geographically being an outlier, and having a recruiting deficiency leads to us not being able to that every year. I know the expectations in Knoxville are to do it every year. You all have advantages, that we don't.

So, this is the year we should make a run, barring something horrendous...which could happen Saturday, or next Saturday, or in October.

I get the distinct feeling 05, that deep down, "if" WVU wins this game it's going to have a jarring effect on you. The fact (seemingly the lower quality of player) wins, it's catastrophic to your psyche. We do have some NFL talent, but they were not 5stars, outside of our QB. We find them, it's very hard, and this year is suppose to replicate 2016, ideally surpass it. I agree with your assessment though, 4-5 stars lead to playoffs and titles every year. We as a program can't do that. We've found a way that works for us. I know it's not conventional, but if it works like 16' I would hope Dana gets another bump in pay and stays. I could also see a line where the football Gods line up and we win the conference, make the playoffs,(MY INNERFANDOM TALKING) and he's lured away by bigger program. <- that would suck.

Tennessee can win this game. I'm telling you, and we'll all know it within the first 4 possessions. 2 for each team. If you all line up with a TE set, FB, and run off tackle, test our D-Line all the questions will be answered. And I can see a 3pt game when it's all said and done. Also, across the line, Dana could come out 4 wide the first play and test your safeties. The real question will come when the first team punts. I will attest Defense over Offense...EVERYTIME.

I think Pruitt can turn Knoxville back into the brand it used to be.

I hope to be very buzzed to enjoy the festivities.

My general sentiment here was to establish; we mountaineers like you folks. MANY of us vacation in Tennessee, often...very often. We have optimism, and I feel like you all are being disrespected by the national media, by in large. The roster has tons of talent, and you have to best Tackle in the country. And I seriously want to share a beer with Vol Jersey's on Saturday.

Huh? You are a 10 point favorite playing a team with a brand new head coach that went 0-8 in conference play last year. You should win this game. People are hopeful, but there are question marks all over our roster, particularly at QB, offensive line, and in the secondary. As you said you have some NFL talent on offense and we have a defense full of guys who are supposedly good on paper but haven't shown it on the field. You should be able to get into the upper 30s, low 40s in points.

I think there will be a jarring effect on your fanbase if you lose, honestly.

Jarring? That would be a light assessment. Your first post hit the nail on the head. They'll be calling for Dana's job. Fanbase would be on suicide watch for damn sure, me included!

And I wouldn't consider a win by ten points a blowout. Good lord, look at the alabama game - now, that's a blowout. Or, Georgia, for that matter. I think predicting a win by ten points by such a highly vaunted team as WV - NC contender- over a 4-8 team like Tennessee -with so much going against us- is kind of chicken-dookery. Why wouldn't the devastating combination of WV's passing/running offense warrant a 21 or greater spread?

It think somebody is concerned.
And you can quote me.

Maybe, but remember a point spread isn't a prediction on the margin of victory. It can be used as a good proxy for that, but they aren't the same thing. From an odds perspective, the 10 points West Virginia is favored by is the amount of points the betting public, collectively, is demanding Tennessee be "spotted" so there is even money on both teams. It's purely to create a bet on the game that has 50/50 odds.

Also, this line isn't more slanted in WV's favor because they play no defense. If they had just an adequate defense, they probably would be favored by something 14-17 points. It's hard to make teams who can't stop anybody huge favorites, even if they have great offenses. I don't think they'd be favored by 21 in any circumstance though.
