I know you guys are still hurting a little bit, but you should be please with the hire. He may not be as big a name as you would liked to have had, but Dooley has a very high football IQ and is a hell of a recruited. When the dust settles you guys will be fine.

P.S. you have no idea how crazy it is to see a coach at UT with the name Dooley :)

We should go get the elder Dooley to come be the DC. That worked out great for us last time. :swoon3:

The fact that people believe this is a good hire defies all logic and reasoning.

I hope time proves you right, fade, but anyway you look at it, this is a huge gamble, bigger than Kiffin.

I am adopting a wait and see approach with the new coach. Time will tell who was right or wrong.

I can't help but believe we are scraping the bottom of the barrel on this one. I have to wonder if Hamilton continued to lowball these other candidates...such as Wittingham.

thinking 2-2.5mill was a good figure...it's not. Wittingham would be one of the top candidates...period. A big splash.
This one doesn't even make a ripple. I'm not as depressed as I would be if Cutcliffe was hired, but this is what it is...rejection, rejection, rejection.

If Hamilton put $4 million on the table for Wittingham, I'm pretty confident the guy would take it...that's close to NFL money. But what Hamilton keeps missing is, even if Whittingham is currently making 1.5 mill/yr. Asking him to come in and compete with Saban and Meyer who make $4mill+...with a figure half that, isn't going to cut it. I guarantee you, Dooley's contract will be paltry as well.

Hamilton's being a tighta$$ in this whole process and I want him gone yesterday.

searching rivals before dooley LA Tech was averaging about 1 or 2 3 star recruits after Dooley was hired he was pulling 8 or 9 3 star recruits he never got a 4 but its LA Tech they get paid big money to go to BCS schools to take a big beating on HC day games, I think he will be able to recruit.

^per scouts for this year La Tech is 80th, and has 2-3 3*'s, mostly 2*'s and several 1's!! Just sayin...

I think he will need to show success before he starts winning recruits, I don't expect any "bryce brown" type players the next couple of years. I hope I'm wrong...

You have absolutely no idea whether that's the case. I'm not really defending Hamilton, but none of us have any clue what Hamilton offered Whittingham or any of these other guys.

That means he's 6 spots better than what's listed on rivals... just sayin'.

We shouldn't worry... third year coaches with 4-8 records and recruiting classes that struggle to break the top 80 should definitely be holding press conferences at Tennessee.

You hit the nail on the head!!!

The Bammers got sick and tired of fooling around and broke out the check book. What did it get them? Satan and a NC.

The Cats got sick and tired of fooling around and broke out the check book as well. What did it get them? Their best season start in 40 years and quite possibly a NC as well. Of course this still remains to be seen.

In most cases, one gets what they pay for!!

It seems to me that Hammy was trying to protect the staff and hire a head coach. Makes sense as probably the best way to retain at least a portion of the recruits and soothe the current players a bit. It probably went against the grain for most of the coaches that were considered prior to Dooley to not bring their own staff. We'll never know all the behind the scenes discussions and considerations but we do know that Hammy was dealt an almost impossible hand to play. Had Kiffin jumped ship in early December, it would probably be a different story.

The shoulda, coulda, woulda stuff will go on for awhile but it is what it is. None of my Tennessee apparel has Kiffin's picture on it so I ain't burning anything nor sending it to Haiti.

Here's hoping that Dooley and the gang gel into the most wonderful group of coaches in college football.

GO VOLS!!!

Exactly. With what this team has been through, the best thing we as fans can do right now is give them our full support.
