good bye cuonzo

The best part about the thread is while he posts in all the other threads he won't step in here and just fess up to an over reaction, and admit that it was a mistake.

A mistake about what? They got kicked in the pills in Memphis. If they didn't improve Martin should have been fired. At that point in the season they were playing lifeless uninspired basketball. Coaching mistakes were plentiful. We were a crappy defensive team who was billing themselves as a good defensive team. Our coach was known for benching hot players and drawing up 40 foot shots at the end of games.

They have improved. Good for them. Martin's seat went from hot to warm. You guys willing to let a coach "develop talent" are killing me. This is NCAA Basketball - not some church league. If you're willing to accept losing to AP at home, then that's what you'll get.

Thats not what you said in your OP.

And you still dont get it. This team got beat by Vandy & Kentucky just as bad/of not worse than they did at Memphis but to you that is improving.

This team was/is going to have major bumps this year. You take the good (beating Florida, Uconn, Kentucky game at home) with the the bad (blowout losess, AP, CoC, Oakland). You dont make irrational statements like 'good bye Cuonzo" and think that because this team isnt an NCAA tournament team that we should fire this coach and hire somebody else.

A UT coach that loses at home to Austin Peay should be on the hot seat. Period. If not our basketball fans are bigger pansies than I thought.

A Tennessee fan that thinks one loss in a coaches first year should put him on the hot seat is a bigger idiot than I thought.

Winning on the road in conference is hard. Vandy is always a tough place to play. I'll take loses to Vandy and Kentucky in stride. Getting punked by Memphis, litterally embarrassed and laughed at should be unacceptable to most fans.

But obviously there are some that are OK with it. They are probably the kind of fans that compare Martin to Coach K and Roy Williams as well.

it was his 8th game as coach at UT. That doesn't put him on the hotseat for any rational fan

Im from Memphis. I cant stand losing to those guys. But to say it is ok to lose to Kentucky & Vandy on the road but not Memphis is even more hypocritical.

Memphis has more TALENT than Vandy and when they want they can be pretty good. Theyd be really good if they had a coach who could get something out of them, and if they werent all playing for themselves instead of the uni. (thats a whole other topic)

The fact is, it was dumb to call out CCM because of a couple losses early in his first year. These guys werent going to buy into this system and his coaching from day one. That doesnt happen. But as the year has gone on this team has obviously developed and started to grow under CCM. Players that hadnt shown much before CCM got here are starting to show some talent.

It is nice for the reasonable fans who were patient and knew that this wouldnt be done over night. We are seeing what we knew and hoped would happen. And people like you who get caught up in the moment and make irrational statements now look silly and will try to hopelessly defend your irrational state of mind.

Did it count more than a 'loss'?

You understand the difference in losing to AP in your 8th game as UT's coach with a depleted roster/no returning guys learning a brand new system, trying to establish a defensive mindset in a group of guys who were not asked to do that under the previous coach....

...or a loss to AP in your 3rd year, with your guys, and your system already in place.

Should we have beaten AP? Hell yes we should have. Were we happy we loss to AP? Hell no we werent.

The fact is some of us understand the process, and you dont. Its ok. Just enjoy it now. This staff is going to do a lot of great things. Maybe youll start to see that now that we are putting ticks in the left column.

Granted the AP loss was inexcusable and should never happen again.
But what was the alternative to developing players this year?
Okay not hiring Martin in the first place and throwing an imaginary 5 million at some one like Kruger who could have brought his top recruiting class with him.

Would have been guaranteed success, except for the fact that Kruger's Sooners are struggling this year, have won one more game than we have, lost to St Louis on their home floor (not near as bad as AP), recently lost to Texas T( winless in the conference), are still looking for their go-to-guy and probably won't make the dance.

I've seen what hiring the right guy at UT can do. But I've also witnessed, numerous times first hand, what hiring the wrong guy can do. Through the first half of the season we were a crappy team with bad loses. At that point there was no indication that Martin would change anything.

Some were content to blame the players. I take a different approach and hold the coach accountable.

Have the players changed? No. Have Martin's style and decisions improved? Yep.

Hilarious.
Same players, but have they improved their game?
Practicing on their own in study hall I guess.

Martin's coaching style is still the same.
Teach, teach, teach and if you don't accept it, my way or the highway.
More animated on the sideline. I guess, more than earlier in the season. but no more than when he was at Missouri State.
No more than he was when his team played us last year in TBA.
Havin fun trollin are ya?

Actually, the players have changed. They've decided to play the style of defense Martin has demanded since day 1. That loss to AP was bad, but it is arguably the only bad loss this team has. That second game against Memphis was the players' (not the scheme by Martin) fault. If you watched that game you would've seen a lack of effort (that's putting it nicely) from the players, especially on the defensive side, and the more talented team whipped them. It was a bit of an awakening because since then the team has played phenomenal defense. Yes, Martin has made some adjustments, but the majority of the improvements has been because the players decided to do what Martin tells them to.

Went from hot to warm?

BAHAHAHAHA

You continue to surprise me with dumber and dumber posts, each time you post I think no way this can be dumber than the last, and you continue to prove me wrong.

Should Indiana have fired Tom Crean after half of his first season there? It's called rebuilding, this program got set back quite a bit(not IU level) and CCM had his hands full.

None of the former players left over played the type of ball CCM wanted. He was implementing a completely different system and trying to re tool guys who were never asked to play defense. The fact you wanted it to go completely smoothe and not have a hiccup says a lot about your knowledge of the game.

CCM was known for benching hot players and drawing up 40 ft last second shots? Seriously? That was a Pearl trademark you clearly don't watch these ganes, or atleast not sober.

Do you not remember some of Pearls losses he suffered? We're you calling fit his head after the first 15 games too?

Who was this RIGHT GUY hired for UT, and please dear god say Pearl because that shoots down every thing you have been saying.

Let see have the players changed? Well we added a 5* recruit that's changing players. Mcbee is now shooting about 50% from 3 instead of 23% which he was early on. Golden isn't flying down the court with his head down, he's actually looking for teammates now. Hall isn't slouching around and is playing aggressive....AND WHERE CAN I BEGIN ON HOW JORDAN MCRAE HAS CHANGED?????!!!!!

First off, losses has three (s's) in it.

Secondly, if you don't understand that the comparisons to Coach K and Roy were simply hyperbole examples to show you that some of the best coaches have made the same mistakes as our guy, then you're really just not going to ever get it.

Thank you for wording that a short ad possible. Everytime I try to explain why the comparison I feel the need to elaborate on the rest of his idiotic statements.

Maybe since its short and sweet hell finally get it, not holding my breath though:

You were wrong. Just say you were and this thread will probably die. Keep arguing how right you were and we'll be glad to bump it for the rest of the time you spend on this board. It really ticks people off when our fans spout off reactionary, hilljackish nonsense about a coach who hadn't even coached half a season. We've won 4 of the last 5 and could easily go 4-2 or 5-1 the rest of the way.

Martin's seat isn't remotely warm. That's insanely stupid

As usual, you have no idea as to what you're talking about yet will argue to the death defending your ignorance
