Personally I have never liked starting a new QB that is a junior unless he has 3 years left to play. The Team has him two seasons if he does not get hurt and then you are starting over. I will take JG as the starter and take my lumps the first year. I know Butch is on the "Warm" seat and needs to win 8-9 games and a bowl but I feel like having a QB that can play for 4 years is the better option long term. Call me crazy but I will take a 8-4 or 7-5 next year to get an extra two years of the same QB. I am not a millennial that has to have everything now.
there may be something to that. i think if nothing else, there's no issue of another guy on a RS that makes that decision any less plausible.
back in 13, when Dobbs was a freshman, he had RS, and they wound up having to burn it, tried it again in 14, and we all know what happened. but i think the reason they tried it again in 14 was because they knew they didn't have a real answer for QB past 14, and i believe CBJ was trying to get to a place where he'd have at least 3 years with Dobbs (15, 16, and 17). then of course we landed Dormady, Jones and JG and some of those concerns were lessened, and the rest is now history. but at the time, in 13, it was Dobbs, and....no body else for the future. these other guys weren't on the roster. so it made sense to try the RS again in 14, and plan for the future.
so, to your point, he may have finally gotten to that point where where he can get that 3 years out of JG, solidifying the qb position for 5 straight years, barring injury. that at least provides some time to develop Jones and the new kid, and recruit qb's over the next two cycles that could be heir apparent to JG.
i mean, that is if you're in to that kind of forward thinking and all.
Sheriron is gone unless he wins the starting nod imo...been here 3 years...developing time is over.
well, the only thing about that, and i'm not saying he won't, is that he already did. and came back. not sure what to make of that....
that he already did at least gives credence to the notion that he would.
but that he came back, knowing the situation he was coming back to, not sure what to make of it, unless he has some unrealistic expectation or was told something perhaps? speculation at best. won't be surprised eitiher way.
he could compete anywhere, and just competing doesn't guarantee anything, so if it's just the competition, why transer, if you don't win it?
Everyone seems to be so high on JG. Hopefully it will work out well, but I also remember everyone being high on Brandon Stewart over his competition. Didn't work out so well for him. I don't think we should rule out QD at all.
Bray catches too much crap on VN. He had one incident with beer bottles and left early. He should have stayed, yes, but we were getting a new coach and all of his talent had left him. I questioned his maturity then but he hasn't done anything to prove he isn't/wasn't besides the one incident forever ago.
