Good Article on JG in the Tennessean

I only pray that JG is as advertised.

We will get a glimpse during the spring. I think he has potential to be special.

Bray could've been really good with proper coaching and discipline before he let himself ruin his self

No one ever held Bray accountable when he was here. I mean yea it's mostly his fault, but the leaders who should have been molding him into a young man, failed him aswell

If you want good quarterbacks, you need a good, genuine QB coach--or a combination OC/QB coach as we had with Cutcliffe. We've missed Cut.

We haven't had a stellar QB since Bray and even he wasn't a winner.

Um yea we have and it's dobbs. Dobbs is our winningest quarterback since ainge and I'd say ainge was pretty stellar. You mean we haven't had a stellar pocket passer since Bray? That's better word choice. Don't matter how pretty you can throw the ball. At the end of the day all that matters for a QB is if your play on the field contributed to wins. It would be down right ignorant to disagree that dobbs did that time and time again over his career at UT. I'd say he was pretty stellar

Definitely one of the most intriguing prospects we've seen in the last 20 years, it is a pure pleaure to watch him throw. I expect big things.

Dobbs is extremely talented and special, but you could argue that the best game of his career came his sophomore season again SC. He was above average overall, but I wish he could've played more often at that higher level he showed everyone he has.

I think we would have seen him play like that every game if the coaches had called the plays like we were down 21 from opening kick-off.

Everyone seems to be so high on JG. Hopefully it will work out well, but I also remember everyone being high on Brandon Stewart over his competition. Didn't work out so well for him. I don't think we should rule out QD at all.

I think QD wins the job personally. He's going to be the stud we've needed in the passing game.

Where do you get that confidence from about him? He had worse stats in game versus worse competition than Dobbs. All reports by everyone who watches the team say JG passes better. He couldn't beat Dobbs out by outperforming him in practice. Where has he shown this passing prowess some of you say he has? All I hear is how JG is the better passer with the bigger arm.

I've heard people praising JG. I've heard people praising QD. Haven't heard anyone impartial praise one over the other. Agendas ain't gonna win the job. One of the QBs will.

dormady hasn't had any meaningful game snaps, and JG had a RS put on him. the fact is, no one knows what either one will look like when live bullets start flying.

but wouldn't you rather have a situation like this, where we all seem fairly confident that we have 2 pretty good QB's on the roster, and they're going to compete for the job all off season?

if nothing else, that alone should make them both better, and at some point, one of them will WIN that competition....

of all the problems and questions we have going in to 2017, this is the one i like to have the most.

it's a far cry from having to decide between Worley and Peterman 4 years ago, no disrespect to either one mind you, but back then, neither were setting the world on fire, and no one was singing the praises of either one.

Are you really, honestly going to sit here and lie and act like >90% of what comes out from insiders doesn't say JG is a better player and passer and will probably start?

They could all be wrong. Dormady could win and be the next Manning. BUT ever single piece of "evidence" so far does not back that up. All we ever get is articles and radio people talking about JG as the future, his talent and how he is a better passer, athlete, and leader than Dormady.

I agree its nothing wrong with a competition.

I think is ludicrous to proclaim how Dormady will be some great passer or even a better passer than Dobbs. He had worse stats vs scrubs than Dobbs vs real players. People that watch the practices say JG is a better passer. What in that equation would lead someone to say how Dormady is going to be a passing upgrade from Dobbs? He may never start a game according to the people in the know.

I think they both are talented. If you say you think QD is some great passer I will question it though. He hasn't ever shown it in game. If you are going by practice reports and insiders than JG should be who you think is a great passer.

I just want someone to give just one valid reason they think Dormady is a great passer. Just one. We have people saying how he has NFL talent and will be better than Dobbs. Based on what?

i'm not saying one is better than the other (though i do agree, JG probably has the higher ceiling).

but it's not like QD hasn't had praise in his camp for his ability to throw, and by all accounts has "enough" athletic ability to run this offense.

the real question is whether or not the O line can do enough to protect either one well enough to make a positive impact on the passing game. again, my gut tells me that QD would maybe need that a little more than JG, but it's not like JG is being touted for being the next Cam Newton, athletically either.

at the end of the day, you have two qb's that many think are both quality. and they get to go head to head.

that's all, and that's definitely not a bad thing.

Here's another article talking about it.

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/t...sees-jarrett-guarantano-sec-prototype-center/

I love what Trent Dilfer had to say:

"Whitfield’s comments are similar to those made by Trent Dilfer, head of the Elite 11 and former NFL quarterback, during Guarantano’s recruitment."

“He’s almost too talented,” Dilfer said, via FOX Sports. “Essentially, Guarantano can make every throw in the book — and do so with unmatched speed and power… He’s got everything you could ever want.”

Give me some of that "evidence". When you throw big important words like 90% and EXPERTS around, you should be able to give a pretty decent cross-sampling that DOESN'T include an article where the author was simply impressed with JG's makeup (as we all are). And get over the butthurt and throwing out "lying" when you're not expressing FACTS! You simply can't ride with your OPINION without this mythical panel of EXPERTS that have declared JG a far "superior passer" than Dormady. Quote doesn't exist! Nothing in the post you responded to justified your angry response. Live with the FACT that your opinion isn't backed by any percentages or expert dissertations on the subject. If JG wins the job it ain't because you and your THINK TANK knew it.

I cant wait for fans to now place unrealistic expectations on JG that are nearly unachievable so that people can then call him a bust or go after the coaches if he doesn't live up to said expectations!

Remember when Dilfer was saying pretty much the same thing about Torrance Gibson?

it's no more ludicrous to say Dormady is great, than it is to say JG is great. all we're all going on is 2nd hand opinions based on what they've either seen or heard about JG in controlled environments or camps. and QD hasn't had a meaningful snap since he's been here.

all we're able to do is read, and pick a side, if you're in to that. but there's nothing tangible that any of us can point to and say 'see, this one's better' other than quoting an article about someone else's opinion of what they saw either in practice or in shorts.
