Good article from Wes Rucker

The way it's going he won't be high on any power 5 team's list. Not going to get a power 5 job. Will land in a lesser conference where he belongs. Big boy football is not for him.

Community college? 😜

I could see a bottom feeder like Kansas taking him. He would get drubber there for 3-5 years, and then he would be on the scrap heap.

I got to ask. Why does Wes get so much hate? I started following him last year, and seems to be good at reporting about Tennessee sports.

Maybe.. His offensive scheme is a liability without a freak athlete playing qb masking his mistakes.. Like Hurd's dad said. Easiest offense to read in college football. If your QB can't make plays, well, you see the results.

Couldn't disagree more, although maybe we have different views of what a used car salesman is. I have absolutely no doubt that Butch has put his heart and soul into this job. He may not be the coach we need to take us to the next level, but it's not because he's tried to sell us a bunch of lemons--at least give him credit for giving his all.

The definition of a lemon is a car that doesn't operate or perform as advertised. I would say his system is definitely a lemon.

Money shot:

If you want to win SEC championships, you’re probably going to need a new coach.

If you’re comfortable with being competitive against decent teams and occasionally winning a game you shouldn’t win, you don’t need a new football coach.

good analysis by Rucker that most fans already see. Another point that has been given a different
angle is the $14 million buyout on firings. :ermm:

What a worthless article..... hey Jones is going to get fired.. really???

well, not so fast my friend...to me the question is more about when...is it really this year, or could Butch get one more...that's the real question for me right now...guess we'll see...:):)

GO VOLS!

I clicked on this thread because I've never seen that thread title before. Ever. Speaks volumes.

"Toughness got Tennessee to the 2-yard line in the final seconds of Saturday’s game. Details and accountability would have gotten Tennessee to a place it hasn’t been in 10 quarters — the end zone — and it would have gotten the Vols a win their coach desperately needed."

Best quote from the article, ad its true sadly.

The game came down to a few things. 1st we couldn't get a TD in 3 trips to the red zone. If we score any of them. We win.

2nd, the timeout usage at the end of the game was a joke, you needed those when you went back on offense, everyone knows that.

again 1st and goal from I think the 2, and we throw 4 straight passes. inexcusable.

Rucker usually is a coach defender and has been for Jones prior to this season; so if he's turned on Jones, then you know it's over.

I don't hate him as much as most do, but I can see why some do. He's generally been too pro-coach IMO, and that's across all UT sports.

I also find many of his articles are at times "Captain Obvious" articles, or articles in the style of former Tennessean sports writer and Peyton Manning hater David Climer. And by that I mean it's one of those articles where he sets something up, then gives the opposite view, and by the end you realize he wrote a whole article that really didn't say anything meaningful at all. Rucker wrote one about the state of the baseball program this past spring and it was basically "Hey the baseball program must improve, somehow!".

that there is a huge "talent discrepancy" between UT and South Carolina? Is there? You'd have to be extremely familiar with the SC roster to make that point. I wouldn't make it. Everybody assume we are loaded with talent. We most definitely have serious offensive coaching issues, but talent and (lack of) experience issues are also involved--we just don't really know how much.

If I were Jones, I'd sack Scott immediately and hope there is another coach on his staff with some competence coaching an offense. Our offense has been an utter disaster this year.

Tennessee's average star rating is 3.54. South Carolina is 3.10. We have as big of a talent advantage over them as Alabama has over us.

This is indeed a good article or, more correctly, opinion piece.

I think most of us are in agreement that we have the talent, just not the coaching, player development, etc.

Or, in other words....

"It's not the Jimmys and the Joes at Tennessee...it's the X's and the O's."
