Golesh to South Florida

Is this going to be the panicked reaction any time a coach leaves?

News flash - good programs lose coaches that take HC jobs because of their success here. That's a good thing.

I hope it's something we have to get used to on an annual basis.

Maybe not annual, yearly staff turnover is not fun… every 2 or 3 years though

Golesh has been one of CJH's best recruiters. Golesh is credited as lead recruiter for Nico. I don't know who, if anyone, we lose 'cause of this but it's gonna be key that CJH replace Golesh with a proven, top-level SEC recruiter like Jahmile Addae or James Coley. Please don't hire anyone from TA&M as I doubt any of those guys can carry water without a sack of cash to hand out.

Staff making lateral moves is a sign of problem, assistants getting promotions is a good thing.
depends on who else we lose from staff and if any key recruits turn away. most everyone expects Vols to regress next year w/o HH behind center. this could just be rats fleeing the ship.

Expect Tennessee to win 10 games at most and 9 games at worst. Tennessee is not sliding back.

LOL The tide is rising for the Vols. As I said earlier assistants making lateral moves could be a sign of trouble (rats fleeing the ship) taking promotions to HC or coordinator positions is a good sign things are going well.

Even Doug Matthews this morning said on his show that it is highly unlikely Vols’ 2023 offense will be nearly as productive as this season and defense is going to have to get much better in terms of talent and coaching. It is what it is.

Lateral moves can be made for a number of reasons and not necessarily because of issues or problems.

That doesn’t mean we have a sinking ship. Sure our offense will probably not be as explosive as it was this season but our defense should be much better. And even a little less production out of the offense will still leave us with a damn good one.

I think this Tennessee team like the 1990s Florida team the Head Coach is the real OC.

I know, continuity helps w/ recruitment though as well as player development. Just hope to keep most guys around for a couple years before they depart…

I may have missed it. Is Golesh coaching in our Bowl game or is he hitting the recruiting trail for USF right away? Would love for him to be here for the last game. Although, at the same time it might be good to see what Halzle does if he assumes those duties for the bowl game

He could have went somewhere little better. Lived in Tampa and just hard to build excitement in that town around USF. They don’t have their own stadium. Can’t fill Raymond James which makes games kind of lame on crowd noise. They would be better served with a smaller stadium on campus but doubt they get that funding . USF campus does not have a college feel to it with majority of students commuting. Probably going to be a short layover there is he can generate success first couple of years.

Hate to lose Golesh, but happy he's going to USF if he is leaving. That's a place I think he can be successful.

Congrats to him on getting the head coaching gig

So it looks like until recently or until Golish - they paid their head coach $500,000 and I know he was making $1.2 here. How do we discover what he will be making at South Florida? I thought he was very good as a play caller, wasn't blown away with his personality but didn't have any interactions with him, so there is that :) At least he didn't land at a place with deep, deep pockets that could pilfer some other top assistants. I assume that he will take a few lower-level admin or coaching assistants with him. Obviously, it seems like an important hire.
