Jabari Small has been really impressive,” Golesh said following the Vols’ practice Saturday inside Neyland-Thompson Sports Center. “That’s a guy that I think we were all excited to see what he can do. Really, that running-back group has got some depth in there, some guys that haven’t played a bunch. Dee (Beckwith) has really done a good job. Tiyon Evans has done a really good job. I think those guys have really done a phenomenal job.

“I think the wideout group — Velus (Jones Jr.) has shown up. (Jimmy) Calloway has really shown up. Those guys have been really, really impressive so far these first couple days. The O-line group, I feel like, has some guys in that group that have played and have practiced that way. The tight-end group has done a good job...But, to answer your question, two guys that maybe have stood out: Jabari has been one, for sure. And probably that O-line group as a whole, knowing how the operation works, getting on the right people, playing fast. Those two have been really impressive so far.”

...They’ve been really, really good through these first two days — have not missed a beat whatsoever,” Golesh said of Tennessee’s offensive line. “In terms of guys there that have been impressive, Cade (Mays) has done a really good job. Been really impressed with him. He really likes to play football. He’s fun to watch. Darnell Wright has been really impressive. (Javontez) Spraggins, for a young guy, boy, he plays his tail off. (Cooper) Mays at center has done a really good job. Man, I’ve been impressed with those young guys. We’re big. We’re strong. I’ve been impressed. Those guys come off the ball. Again, there’s no pads on right now, but I can’t say enough good things about those guys.”

What's the deal with Golesh? As a new coach, he's supposed to stand up there and whine about how the players are too young, too small, too weak, or too slow, and so it's going to take years to rebuild a winning program. Instead, he acts like a guy who's excited about being handed the keys to a shiny new sports car. Enthusiasm is contagious, so I hope our players catch a powerful case of it.

I look forward to the day that our coaches are gushing over our play against a top 25 team on a Saturday.

I am well aware that every coaching hire at UT over the last 12 years has been an overreaction to the last coaching staff (from a personality perspective atleast). So, I take everything with a grain of salt. But that was refreshing to hear...I know it was for those players for sure.

What I'm reading is Pruitt deserves some credit for building a roster, but just didn't know what he was doing with it, them, the program. Did it and went about it the wrong way!

The pieces are there for us to surprise some folk. There is a lot of talent on this team! They could easily be in a NewYear'sDay Bowl. Recruting hasn't been the issue. The issue has been getting players to buy in without paying them.....lol

Jabari Small impressed me last year with limited touches. I said it then and now getting he’s getting his opportunity to shine. The kid runs with a chip on his shoulder and could be very special.
I know it was a small sample size, but I liked Dee a lot better. He seems to have a nice blend of size and speed.

Kid looked “different” from the rest in the few chances he had. Not saying special...but saying possible in the right offense.

Am I the only one that still can’t believe beckwith is a RB...I know the kid is a spectacular athlete and could probably make some noise there...but IMO he should be moved to TE and be used similarly to Kyle Pitts...and I honestly believe this staff would use him effectively there unlike previous staffs

I agree 100% , recruiting isn’t and has not been the issue. Just buying in and playing with the same energy as Ga, or Bama has played with and then development. We all have watched these kids film and have seen what they can do with the football in their hands or playing defensively. If not this year but next and as long as this defense can keep our offense in the game, we will put up points for sure and be a threat year in and year out.

Not sure what your implying but my two cents which isn’t much but for what it’s worth is DB could be a good RB but I think could be special and elite at TE in this offense.
I see what you're saying with Beckwith and I think that's likely to eventually happen. Golesh just said he wanted him to learn one position before they thought about moving him. Hopeful with the new staff. We shall see.
