ive been twice, a suggestion...wearing orange pants and orange suspenders with and orange and white tie is asking for constant verbal beration .....but it was fun, not really expensive compared to other places hotel-wise, we had 4 people splitting gas so it really was cheap and the tickets arent too too bad to get ahould of from scalpers for around/just under $100

where can i pick up some orange pants off of the internet?

I went to the swamp in 2003 and the only people i wanted to smack were the frat guys. But I usually feel that way about most(not all) frat guys anyway haha. You know the guys I'm talking about... :swoon3:

Even as a Gator fan I can tell you that the fraternity guys are absolutely the ones to stay away from. And that includes the ones that are recent alumns (say, the last five years) because they start tailgating the night before and work themselves into a frenzy.

The problem is much worse if you end up parking offsite, but within walking distance of the stadium, because then you walk by all these lots full of drunk obnoxious fans who look up in their hazey state of consciousness, see you in your UT regalia, and just start screaming profanities at you.

By the stadium, its fine, because you have crowds and police around and that tends to tame everyone quite a bit. There's usually at least one loud mouth drunk within about 7 or 8 rows of you, and they will be looking for a fight. I think I've seen at least one guy like that at every game I've been to for my entire life -- and that's not just at Gator football games. I think its in the Constitution or something.

At any rate, my advice to minimize chances of anything other than a little good nature ribbing: 1) either pay for the parking pass right next to the stadium or park out at the mall and take a shuttle bus. Just avoid walking by fraternities or tailgating parties as much as you possibly can; 2) If some guy in the stands starts yelling at you from 30 seats away, assume he's a drunk and just don't even acknolwedge him. For God's sake don't yell back, because that's what he want so he can show off for his friends. If you ignore him, he'll call you a few choice names for 30 seconds but then he'll give up and look for someone else to taunt so he can be a bigshot; 3) if UT happens to pull the upset, be happy and joyous and what not, but remember where you are and save the singing "It's great" yada yada yada for the drive home.

Hahaha you are 100 % correct law. Everyone else my dad and I encountered was totally cool. My only real complaint was that no one could tell me how to get to Tom Petty's old house.

Alabama is a much worse. At least the vast majority of gator fans don't breath through their mouth.

I agree with all of Lawgator’s tips.

I had to park off-site a few year ago and walk by the frat houses. I can talk about anything, but they had my 12 year old son in tears. They would walk up within about 10 feet and scream through a megaphone at him - "Child abuse!" because he was wearing a UT shirt.

My son went down two years ago with a friend -- he still wore his UT stuff. He met Fred Thompson (during his run for President) coming into the game and walked with him to the stadium. Fred apparently was happy to talk to a UT fan. Fred's security help cover for my son too.

Going to Gainesville is a bit like going to any city -- stay out of certain parts of town and keep near the stadium before and after the game.

Get out of town if UT wins and party in Jacksonville, Orlando, or Tampa.

i've been to gainesville the last three times we've played down there. typically, before the game, you're going to get ragged on a little bit, but some of the UF people are actually pretty nice. now after the game, if ut wins, gainesville is a ghost town, and when we lose, they literally storm the streets jumping on top of cars and harassing the hell out of anyone wearing orange. and the whole jumping on top of cars thing is not an exageration, i literally saw a few dudes run into traffic on their "strip" on jump on the hood of a moving car. it was ridiculous.

funny story, the last time we were in gainesville, before the game, we saw some people carrying a a banner that read "vols lick balls". of course, me and my buddies thought it was hilarious and we took a picture in front of it. it's definitely a good time. plus, there's one bar on their strip that has free beer until midnight on saturday nights, that's never a bad idea.

As others are saying, the key is to think it through and just avoid confrontational situations to begin with.

I've gone every year since the late 90s and have only had a few incidents, sure I couldve walked away but where's the fun in that??

Its just like going to any other SEC game, except the fans are way more arrogant, and there's thousands more jorts. :)

I've been to the Swamp and it's not THAT bad. I had fun, actually. Yes, there are a few loudmouths and idiots (OK, more than a few) but most of the folks I met were gracious and friendly. It was a good experience.

The only real BAD experience I had at another team's stadium was when I wore a Dallas Cowboys jersey to Veteran Stadium up in Philly. THAT was NOT somthing I'd recommend to others, to say the LEAST.

THAT was stupid. As a Philadelphian, we all take a pledge to belittle the s*it out of Cowgirls fans to the point where they contemplate suicide. That stadium had a courthouse in it for a reason.

A friend of mine and I once went to a Jets game in Jersey and we both had Miami Dolphin jerseys. It was terrible---those crazy drunken fans were hurling expletives at us the whole game and a bunch of guys threatened bodily harm, and they were ready to do it. We had to get a guard to escort us out near the end of the game, for safety reasons. It was incredible.

Google pennington & bailes stadium pants. I have the orange ones with the power T's all over them. Definitely be ready for some ridicule though, but anyone that says anything is just a hater anyways!

I know you do. And all we Dallas fans have to give us comfort are those FIVE Lombardi trophies.

Say... how many Lombardi trophies have the Eagles won? :)

How many playoff games have the Cowboys won since 1996? Oh wait... that's right. What have you done for me lately?

And might I add, 44-6. ggkkthxbbye

I've decided the Navy does not need my services throughout college football season, so I expect to pay a little over a grand on the game, the plane there and back, the room for a weekend, the alcohol, and most likely--bail.
great avatar!

Would you consider Tuscaloser or Gainesville more hostile to opposing fans? I've been to Bama and thought they were pretty bad. Might just be because they hadn't screwed their sister/brother in a while. I dunno?

I'm going, never been to the swamp before. I travel to away games with all seasons travel they used to do the travel for the alumni. They said they usually stay in Ocala florida and have a charter bus to the games.
