I'm driving into Ole Miss on Thursday and was wondering if anyone knew of any campgrounds or other camping areas in the area. I couldn't find any online and couldn't figure out how to register to be a troll on the Ole Miss message boards. I have a place for Friday & Saturday, but I wanted a campfire and a bottle of Ole Number 7 for a Thursday night pregame. Thanks and GO VOLS

Try Sardis Lake about 30 minutes outside Oxford.

Screw Sardis...that place is horrible. Game Wardens running around everywhere. I went there this past summer and got 2 tickets while on the lake (for the dumbest things possible) and they are not cheap...about $150 apiece. They also gave me a breath-a-lizer for no reason. Any alcohol they find will get you a ticket right then and there. I would find a homeless person to bunk with before I would ever go back there.

I thought about the Grove, but I didn't know the rules on setting up there and when. I'd rather be somewhere I could start a fire without an arson charge, but those are minor details.

Trace State park is about 30 minutes east of oxford between Pontotoc and Tupelo. A couple of friends of mine camped there once and said it was just fine.

I was joking, but the sight, aka the ladies, when you wake up could be worth a small fine.

Yeah, i figured you were joking, but I'm still thinking about trying...i've had my share of run-ins with campus polices from different assorted states and university, shouldn't be too much trouble.

I will be in Tunica... it's only about and 1hr 15min away and you have about 7 Casinos to choose from with anywhere from 250-1000 rooms at each.... I recommend Sam's Town if you are on the more cost effective side and enjoy lower limits on where you choose to gamble.... and they just renovated about 75% of their rooms so it's decent.... good new and expanded poker room with a tourney daily about 50-100 people with a buy in usually less than 100 bones..

My son and I are going down for the Ole Miss game also. Is anyone staying in Memphis? Going back and forth right now between Memphis or Tupelo. Everything in Oxford is booked or at a ridiculous price.

there are some campgrounds on the Natchez Trace Parkway outside of Tupelo I think. It's a beautiful drive on Natchez Trace from Nashville to Tupelo.

Welcome to the South. Seriously, I'm sure there are stories of overzealous cops in every small town. Nowhere is remote enough to avoid harassment. Parks are just easy prey for them, anyway. I know I heard A TON of stories like this around Knoxville as well. I used to hang out at a park in HS, but after a while, cops heard it was a hangout and would ride through at night on bikes with nightvision goggles. Parks are just a great opportunity to arrest people. They get to write tickets while avoiding real criminals.

What? While I lived in Knoxville we'd hike and camp in Big South Fork or Cherokee. In no time at all you'd be so remote it would take weeks for anyone to find you if you got lost.

I got mine off ebay, 175 for 2 in section J row 11. There will be plenty of scaplers around. As for the camping, if you want to stay about 2 hours away from Oxford, there is beatiful Pickwick Lake. You will have the entire campground to yourself this time of year.

Tickets shouldn't be too bad. Ole Miss is all about the party more than the game says my Ole Miss alum buddy. Plus their season is a huge disappointment to them anyways. Good luck anyways.

That is why I am confident of getting good tickets for my grandson and myself on site.

Game Wardens and State Troopers in Mississippi think they are legislators but couldn't spell cat if you spotted them the C and the T. I set up camp at my in-laws 30' south of Oxford in Bruce. Skarooo Mississippi public camp sites unless you can tolerate "jack boot" redneck Nazi's.

Started a thread awhile ago 'Roadtrip to Oxford' would like to see these merged, if thats cool, they kinda go to together and i say the more people that are heading that way it would be great to meet up or get insight as to where to head once there..
My group has grown to 8 now but my ol Jarhead buddy and me are thinking about doing the same (camping out) and then finding a spot to shower early saturday morning.
Definitely plan on tying one on the night before by the way.

Seriously? Go to Memphis, stay downtown, and hit Beale Street. Unless you enjoy eating at another Cracker Barrell and plan on catching Matlock re-runs at 9 before going to bed.

and for those who haven't been to Oxford, I swear to God it's the smallest college city I've ever been to. I always get upset that they don't even have a Hardee's
