Going to Gainesville

I've lived in Gainesville for the Past 5 years. Been to 2 games and to be honest I haven't had any problems other than the occasional "Screw you Tennessee Fan" shouted at me.

I've lived here for 2 years and haven't even had that.

The 1 good thing about games in Gainesville is you can park for free. We always get a spot near the student union and set up the tailgate tents, etc. You have to get there early for this, though, as it's obviously 1st come, 1st serve.

We set up the tents, catch a cab back to the hotel, get ready, and cab it back. .

When we win this year, you better have your camera ready the instant the clock hits 0:00 if you want a picture of the scoreboard. They clear off a losing score almost immediately.

Last visit was the first time I haven't made the Gainesville trip since 05. Honestly, I've never had many problems. I don't think it's any more hostile than most other SEC venues. I think most Gainesville horror stories happened in the 90s when they had just started winning.

We always stay in Valdosta and drive down on gameday. Hotels are way cheaper there.

As for parking, there is a large parking garage on the south edge of campus close to the Medical Center that's free and is not a bad walk at all. Plus, there's very little traffic before or after the game.

After experiencing Florida fans during the Spurrier years, that is the absolute last venue in college sports that I would want to visit.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate any Vol fan willing to visit that hell hole when we play them, but I'll never spend a dime to watch football in Gainesville. I despise those wanna be loser fans.

We will be driving down from Chattanooga. I am seriously considering staying in Valdosta Friday night and driving into Gainesville on Saturday.

If you do dont miss a meal at Rodeo Mexican restaurant. That place is special.

nice to finally hear someone speak the truth about it. I live in GA now and went to athens last year for the game and it was the same thing.i never saw anyone get spit on, cussed at, stuff thrown on them or anything like that. just some tennessee sucks or youre going down!! i honestly think neyland might be worse to opposing fan bases than athens. the whole visiting opponent stadium bad reputations gets so blown out of proportion

Some of the things I've read are so completely retarded its insane. I've been 7 times over the years, its easy
to spot me, I'm wearing all orange, and I've never witnessed a single problem. Heard a little smack talk before
the game on occasion, nothing traumatizing.

I am going to Gainesville to see us beat the Gators this year. Any advice on what to do, where to stay, or where to park?

I'll be traveling with my dad (63), a friend and his daughter (mid 40s and 20).

Also, any other VolNation folks making the trip?

Stay at the Campus Church of Christ parking lot.

I'll be there... Can't stand the thought of missing the opportunity to see us break the streak.

The fans are the worst. I have a laundry list of bad experiences but won't bore you. Just go with friends, have fun, and enjoy the victory.

When those tears of joy start flowing, as time runs out on the gators, it won't matter where you are. You'll just be proud to be BIG ORANGE.

As long as you avoid drunks, you are not going to run into anything. Just like everywhere else.

The people who usually have an issue are the people insane enough to be running their mouth.

I've never had a problem anywhere I've been and have been to many SEC venues, FSU, and Miami.

I've never been to an away game. Is there any kind of "official" tailgate for the Vols? Or is it easy to join a tailgate? Would love to have one/be a part of one down there.

Also, is parking really free? Haha

OP i plan on making it again. at least i requested 4 tix with season tik renewal. First/last time was the Kiffin year when we were supposed to lose by 30. UF fans were pissed they only won by 10. I did laugh at the "Kiffin has a Mangina" poster that covered two stories near a frat house.

The only complaints I had were traffic (worse than UT gameday), the heat on the upper upper endzone level, and the bull-dyke gheytor a couple of rows in front of us
