I am going to Gainesville to see us beat the Gators this year. Any advice on what to do, where to stay, or where to park?

I'll be traveling with my dad (63), a friend and his daughter (mid 40s and 20).

Also, any other VolNation folks making the trip?

Good to see you posting Jake.

I too have some bad Gainesville memories. I can't tell you you how many fans ran up to me after the game and screamed, "long trip for nothing."

I made the trip two years ago, though, for the first time since the Spurrier era and it was quite tame, honestly.

We used to stay near the team, and they always used to be in Ocala, but I'm not sure if that's still the case anymore or not.

I've been to Gainsville twice (1 win 1 loss) and both times was pretty miserable. I've been to every SEC stadium other than aTm and Mizz and those were easily the worst two experiences I've had in an opponent's stadium. If I ever saw a UT fan treating an opponent the way I was treated in FL I'd step in. If you're set on going make some Vol fan friends and travel in a pack.

As an aside the most enjoyable experience for me was (shockingly) at Bama. Was treated well, invited to a bunch of tailgates... had a good time. Ole Miss was good too. I thought The Grove was picturesque if a little overrated, but... the ladies were extremely talented.

I'll be there with 3 others, first time for me. I'm staying at Gainesville Lodge for $100/night, and it's a mile away from the (swamp) dump, not bad if you ask me.

What to do? Friday...drive to Gainesville, eat some gator, and rest up.
Saturday...watch Tennessee end the streak by winning 38-17, party afterwards.
Sunday...sing Rocky Top all the way back to the great state of Tennessee! :dance2:

like any sec school, park on the main part of the campus, stay away from the stadium area and fraternity row--too many obnoxious drunks over there. Someone told me a good place to park is near the plaza of the americas and tigert hall---good parking, near restrooms, the strip on university, etc.

Went to Gainesville once the VOLS won but it rained alot ,i had a great time but its always more fun when the VOLS win.i would like to go watch atleast one game at each SEC teams home field. I have been to every SEC east stadium except Missouri and i have been to Auburn and saw VOLS play in BIrmingham and Tuscaloosa. It is alot easier on my nerves to set in front of my 72inch hd flatscreen than to fight the traffic an the crowed an the cost of it all.

I've lived in Gainesville for the Past 5 years. Been to 2 games and to be honest I haven't had any problems other than the occasional "Screw you Tennessee Fan" shouted at me.

I haven't been since 1999. Went in 1997 and 1999 and swore I'd never go back. Biggest bunch of @ssholes I've ever run into.

OTD in the house. :)

It's funny,I felt the same way as you and 99 was the year I called it quotes for awhile on that trip -- until last year. It's not like it used to be down there, IMO.

Been in 97.99.01.03,05,07,and 13. Their fans were much worse when we were beating them occasionally. Best experience by far was 12/1/01 game. Hottest game I have ever been to was 03 game. The 99 game was Gator fans at their absolute worst. As our team bus, with coach Fulmer in the front, passed through campus they pelted it with beer cans and bottles and gave all manner of vulgar gestures. It went downhill from there.
Going again this year and I really think we are going to get them. We stay at Jacksonville Landing and drive in and back the day of the game. Very nice hotels there and its not a bad drive. About eight hours on game-day is more than enough time to be in Gainesville!

We will be driving down from Chattanooga. I am seriously considering staying in Valdosta Friday night and driving into Gainesville on Saturday.

Try to catch a Less than Jake show and rock out...I don't know what else to do there after you watch us whoop the gators.

I've been to Gainesville 3 times, '09, '11, and '13. I think it's a fun trip and have had a fine time every time with the exception of losing.

We always stay in Valdosta, GA. It's cheaper, less crowded and an easy drive in from there the day of the game. Then on Sunday you're already a couple hours closer to home.

Park at the mall and take the bus in. Also be prepared for very humid weather and hydrate.

Additionally someone at some point will make a rude comment and try and pick a fight. Ignore them, keep walking and everything will be fine.

Yes sir. I'm still alive.

That was the epitome of their worst behavior. 2 people died that night in bar fights after the game.

I also made the mistake of going back to my car not long before the game. Walked right in front of fraternity row.
