why dont we try to go after southern cals offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. hes young and obviously knows what hes doing being in great system with a powerful offense. i know its a long shot to get him out to tennessee, but hey its a head coaching job in the greatest conference in the country and if we throw him a competitive offer why not. what a better place to start out as a head coach.

You reckon he would do better at Tennessee than Coach O did at Ole Miss?

How about Butch Davis at UNC--he would come to UT right away for $3 mil. He could turn UT's program around right away.

AAh a sharp observation Old Chap. Orgeron was a great recruiter but could not actually coach the talent and now Nutt is reaping benefits.

I agree on Butch Davis. He's my numbr 1 choice. Good fit, great coach, great recruiter. I think we'd be kicking a$$ w/in 2 years.

I agree with you, I have said for weeks that he would be the perfect coach for us. He is young, smart, and could get all the top recruits. The only person I want more is John Gruden, but hell I'd take my sisters coaching over Fulmer right now.

I've heard from several folks in the Carolinas that Butch is very happy at UNC and UT could not get him. He has very little pressure at UNC and the folks there are very happy to have him. He'd be taking a big risk to come the SEC pressure cooker, although I still think he'd be successful.

If we talked to him - I bet he would listen, but out of professionalism and possibly to up his contract/salary.

Now maybe for 4 million...

Tennessee will not hire anyone from the West Coast and with no UT ties. This is a good old boy network and if you don't talk with a slow drawl they won't hire him. Steve Spurrier would be the perfect example of what they want in a coach. They don't have the courage to go against the grain and choose someone that is young and innovative. Can you imagine what Pete Carrol or Lane Kiffin would do for recruiting at UT?
