I'm not upset at all. In fact, I'm really excited.

Recruits very well. 20th best recruiter in the nation according to 247.
Coaches a good disciplined defense.
Has hopefully learned a little something from Kirby and he got his start under Saban. Spent quite a few years with Saban and in the NFL

Who cares if he used to be a head coach. Butch and Dooley were former head coaches :thud: (edit: he was interim head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars for part of a season)

There is no sure fire hire. Look at Harbaugh and look at Smart. Look at how much A&M spent on a coach that won as many games as Butch did this year.

My opinion is some of y'all are gonna whine regardless because the trolls ALWAYS know better than professionals. Congrats on Shiano and Doersn, I sincerely appreciate the efforts of Vol Nation to stop those disasters.

However it's time to come together now that we can no longer question the intentions of the AD. I have no idea if it's Tucker. If it is GREAT. If it's Venables or Tee is involved somehow, even better, but I'm getting behind the new HC no matter what.

If I got what I’ve wanted since this search began it would be Venables, and the cherry on top would be Tee as OC. But no since I’m dreaming big. I’ll support whom ever Director Fulmer chooses for us and trust he knows what he’s doing since he knows better than I.

well i'm not convinced it's tucker. i'm convinced it's tucker or steele. and i'd say steele cause he runs a 4-3...the other two run 3-4's and we don't have that kind of time to adjust for personnel to install a 3-4. hell i don't even think we have 4 LB's on the roster...lol.

i can't think of a situation with any of these three that says martin is ready leave LA and a conf championship winning program for this heap, and this plan.

But he did well for the talent and is well repected.

What about the Ohio State team he was dc for? They had a top twenty defense. What about UGA? Top 5 this year.

He has success at every level.

So you just mean plain ol' yardage, which is far from the best measure of how good a defense is; but, I'll play your game. These are his rankings in yardage those same years: 23rd, 28th, 6th, 30th, 30th. One good year, four terrible years. He might well be a genius, but to claim his pro years show that is silly.

He has the number four defense this year.

Has a better resume than Kirby Smart did when UGA hired him. Better resume than Pruitt.

He is a good coach.

Tucker might make a good head coach. But why hire someone who might make a good head coach? Fans have a very high level of confidence in a couple of head coaches, who are available. What kind of person passes up head coaches who poll high levels of confidence, to promote someone who might make it? We have already done that, and we are tired of it.

This is depressing. Sucks that the game my father took me to when he was my age was a powerhouse and now on verge of dieing. My 1st game in 89 season opener vs Colorado State when Cobb and Webb was kicking ass seems like a 100 years ago.

The talent was the same? I just named 1/3 of the entire defense they replaced, with superior talent, in 1 offseason. By 2016 there was 1 starter from the 2014 team that was still left, Christian Jones and he became a backup and only started 2 games. Yes they went through a scheme change, but those teams under Trestman and Phil Emery were seriously lacking in talent. Ryan Pace has had rebuild the entire roster, it stunk. Wanna guess how many players from Mel's defenses in Chicago are currently starting elsewhere? Only 6 and only 2 of those 6 are full time starters. Basically Mel had 2 starters who would start for other NFL teams, 4 starters who would be backups for other teams, and 15-20 guys who wouldn't (and aren't) even make other teams rosters. But yeah the guy had talent to work with...

changing the players does not equal better overall talent. you are simply injecting your opinion that players from group b are better than group a. apparently you seem to think ryan pace was able to come in and rebuild the roster in year 1 and rebuilding it with superior talent with every signing? get real. the bears won 5 games tuckers last year and they won 6 games the year after he left with all that "upgraded talent" you brought up, the talent still sucked. but the defense was better

If it's Tucker, then Fulmer made no effort other than to find a coach that he could control. If it doesn't end well it should be the last thing he ever has to do with this Athletic Department.

Wrong on both counts. Considering the pejorative manner in which you're assuming Phil's intentions and his love for UT, if I suggested that you should investigate Tucker's resume, you'd declare some other shallow excuse to dismiss the man's qualifications. Maybe we couldn't always get the very best results from Coach Fulmer's efforts (but usually we did), but I'll assure you whatever the results, AD Fulmer's thinking of UT's football program and isn't being a shallow drama prince, as you've alliterated. If Tucker's the guy, I'll back up Phil's choice.
