We are having a break at Ben Nevis in Scotland (needed something to forget Gainsville) and I was walking through the local village called Fort William wearing my prized Tennessee hoodie when this chap passing me shouted “Go Vols”, how cool is that, I’m still smiling 🙂

My former boss here in Spencer, Indiana, USA was an Irishman from Carrick-on-Suir.
I converted him to the ways of American Football and he fell in love with the game.
I got him a Tennessee sweatshirt and he was visiting family a few Christmases ago and actually got a couple Go Vols shout outs in the airports and back in Ireland !!!

I've often wondered how much of a crowd UT would draw at a game in Dublin or London?

Hope you gave him a "Go Vols!" in return.

A game in London would be played, but if the game was Scotland, would it be plaid?

Asking for a linguist.

Hope you gave him a "Go Vols!" in return.
I’m embarrassed to say I was so shocked I mumbled football and pointed to the T on my chest, what a blubbering idiot I am

HAHAHHAAA...no worries, old man.
Kind of like in the pub and the waitress says "Thanks" and you reply with "You too"... gets me every time.

I've seen worse---in a phonetics class.

(And just for giggles, besides Tennessee, what's your favorite tea?)

My wife has been to Scotland multiple times but I’ve never been. She ABSOLUTELY loves it. My daughter has toured there with her band. She ABSOLUTELY loves it. If there’s Vol fans there…I’d ABSOLUTELY love it. Give my right arm to play The Old Course!

About 10 years ago, I was passing through Changhi airport in Singapore and passed a guy in a UT shirt and said go vols. He initially looked a bit shocked then turned around and high fived me. Small world...

I got my masters there long ago and can tell you they appreciated the Vols (but admittedly didnt understand why we call it "football") .

Their passion for soccer though, makes us look wimpy by comparison.

Hey! We too were just in Scotland for our first visit there, the 7th thru the 20th. We were in Ft. William to catch the "Harry Potter" steam train (not my idea). At the Fort William station it costs 20p to pee. I loved all the pubs we visited. At both the Lauriston and Scotia bars in Glasgow they had signs at the entrance, no team colors allowed, I guess to discourage friction tween Celtic and Rangers fans. But I would volunteer to be doorman if we saw a bammer or gator walking up in their "colors." Oh, hell naw!

I must agree with all the above comments about Scotland, it is spectacular and there is an intense rivalry between Celtic (catholics) and Rangers (Protestants) divided on religious grounds that goes back years. We were going on the Jackobite Steam train on Sunday but now going home (600 miles) going to avoid Volnation all day (that’s gonna be tough) so I can watch us rebound against UTSA sort of live when we get home.
This game will probably define our season as if we play well then the Florida performance will have woken up all who needed to be or if we lose (and this lot are really useful) then the “players only” meeting was a big clue that there are problems in the camp this season.

GO VOLS (please)

Go Vols !?!?

This is ironic. Got up to check my beloved VolNation where I lurk non-stop and saw this post.

I’m also in Fort William, rode the Jacobite yesterday. Heading back ti Edinburgh tomorrow. What a coincidence!

That’s unreal, do you live in Edinburgh?

I’ve worn my Tennessee colors in Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Bali, and Singapore. The loveliest Go Vols was from an Australian from Perth who greeted me in the mountains of Bali. His daughter wanted to go to university in America and liked UTK.
