So most of you really want to take the wait and see approach with a coach who might need three years to maybe beat Vanderbilt and Mizzou? He is already proving himself to be a coach who can't t do more with less. He fail to snag any all stars during the last signing day. If I was a gambler, I would bet he will again fail to make an impression during the next signing period.
Do you really want to give this guy three or even another season to prove he doesn't have what it takes to succeed?
What's the alternative? You think the last coaching search was bad? Fire a coach after one year and see what happens. No coach will come here with those kind of expectations. If Pruitt isn't the guy we're still stuck with him for 3 years minimum. I'd rather see a proven coach too. But firing Pruitt now will only hurt the chances of that happening. It is possible Butch's players are just that bad and it will get better. I'm sceptical, but we don't have a choice but to let it play out for now.
It is really unfair to ask and demand that the fan base give this yahoo two or three more years of their lives to prove he will never get it. The Vols are now at the point where you can trash a head coach after one bad season and it won't make much of a dent on the win or lose record.
There is good coaches out there with spots on their record (Freeze, Briles, soon maybe Urban) that will jump at the job to get back into coaching.
You're dreaming on Meyer. Briles and Freeze have some serious baggage. Schiano would be a less controversial hire even now. Hiring Meyer after the Schiano uprising would be pretty hypocritical, even if it were realistic. Do you want another title 9 suit? Because that's how you get another title 9 suit.
Criminally underrated post but I guess that shows how backward and retarded the volnation population really isHe's trying to build on the "Bama Model". Big, physical line play; big, fast, physical RB's, WR's, LB's, and DB's. Line up and wear 'em down. 3-4, I-formation, play-action. Blitz, and bomb away.
Problem is, we ain't got much in the way of big, fast, and physical. On top of that, there's a percentage of this roster that, Rivals rating and physical attributes aside, are just plain soft, or spoiled, or both. We saw that last year, and we saw it again yesterday.
So I am now of the opinion that it will take roster turnover, where roughly 75% of our roster is Pruitt-style recruits, before we will see meaningful gains in the football fortunes of UT. We might see a couple of changes on the staff, or at least in the way they teach, scheme, and coach, but I am convinced that it is absolutely going to take roster turnover to produce the wins at a level that will see us back on top in the SEC...East.
Sometimes, you just gotta burn it down and start over. After these next four games, we'll know how bad it is, or ain't. In all likelihood, the full meltdown isn't over yet. Weeding out the weak on a team as weak as this one will take time.
Meanwhile...time to melt a few snowflakes and find out who the football players are.
Go Vols.
I was raised a Christian, from experience over the years, I have had to learn to forgive many for trespasses worst then what these guys were accused of committing. They are legit coaches and they deserve another chance to practice their trade. Eventually, another school will hire them and we will be stuck with another goober choir boy that can't get the job done.

So we should forgive them based on Christian values, because you're sick of choir boys? There's a Catholic joke in there somewhere.
Seriously though, realistically none of those coaches are going to get hired. The potential backlash is to great, regardless of how you personally feel. The admin and a large portion of the fanbase would never accept it.
Here's the thing about the play calling though...if Helton we're calling those same plays with Bama or Georgia we beat Florida or anybody else we line up against. Sometimes it's about the Jimmy's and Joe's instead of the X's and O's. It doesn't matter who is calling the plays right now, this roster was put together by a high school trumpet player who somehow passed himself off as a coach. It’s too early to judge him. However I’m already done with Helton his playcalling Is absolutely awful
