Gloom, despair and agony on us... (merged)

At least we aren’t Penn State, Florida State the thing is every team that’s down right now including Michigan has had winning seasons and competed on Saturday’s more than we have in the last 15 years. Penn State they’ve had a hell of a team the last few years, Florida State self imploded due to bad AD and administration (sound familiar) causing a great coach to leave, but hell they’ve won a nato. Championship since we started that long winding spin down the toilet bowl. I respect Deer Park and unfortunately agree with him, 4-5 year rebuild however this guy can’t and won’t get it done. It’s obvious, to everyone including our rivals.

I watch games, went to the UK game with my son. I’m don’t spending money or investing in UT football until we collectively decide to get involved in college football again. I’ve cancelled tickets, subscriptions to Vol quest and not spent a penny since the UK game. I won’t be buying my family Tennessee gear for Christmas for the first time in 19 years.

I love the Vols, have raised two sons to love the Vols (I feel guilty for doing this) and as an investor I’m tired the ROI from Tennessee football.

Funny. I’ve been going to games since the late 70s and I remember that UT fans were pretty loyal and stood thru thick and thin no matter what. Then the 90s happened and the internet and later social media was invented and people started to complain about everything bc that’s what the generation was raised to do. I’ll never forget during the NC year people complaining about how awful we were and we would lose to (insert team here) because xyz.

Yea, we shouldn’t accept being mediocre but I am a UT fan and donor and alum and will continue to be. I’ve seen us have bad teams and the best teams in the country and we will have both again in the future.

I just hope Freeze stays at Liberty one more year. Because I have no doubt that Pruitt will fail in year 4. They have to know that they are losing a lot more money by keeping Pruitt.

Yeah, but consider what would happen if in 2021, with a much easier schedule, UT goes 7-5 or 8-4. Do you think this administration will fire Pruitt under those circumstances? I have my doubts. Freeze will likely move on to another opportunity, hopefully not in the SEC, because we could write that in as another conference loss if he does.

Easier? You mean like Georgia State? Pruitt will give us at least one humiliating loss per year. 7-8 wins...with this staff...without Dobbs and the rest of Butch's recruits? Color me a skeptic.

Please show the "much easier" part

Rivals are all on the road
Uga at home but thats a 21+ point loss
Maybe SC and vandy (being in Knoxville)
Pitt will win that game as well

Where do you get "much easier"?

Out of conference games. There are 3 of them: Bowling Green, Pitt and South Alabama. Of course, the vols could well crap the bed in any of them (as they have ably demonstrated already), but it is not hard to think UT could enter the Alabama game 3-0. 7 wins doesn't look like a huge stretch (again, with this team anything can happen). My point is just hypothetical; if you make the assumption of say, 7 wins, do you think the UT administration will fire Pruitt? Perhaps it would come down to how the vols look in the games they lose, particularly to their biggest rivals. If they are blow out losses, like this year, that may be enough to fire him. My concern is that the vols will improve, marginally, and play well enough to scrape by with 7 or so wins and not get embarrassed by anybody (except maybe Bama). IMHO, that result will show Pruitt's ceiling. but that result may be good enough for the powers that be to at least "give him another year...." Who knows?

You are certainly entitled to be skeptical. My only point is "what if" the team improves its record and is competitive in its losses. That may give the defenders of the status quo (i.e the AD) ammunition to wait at least another year to pull the trigger on Pruitt. My own impression is that the AD and boosters have little appetite for another big buy out and another coaching search. They will be looking for reasons not to engage in one. Just MHO.

There was a minute there where it was fun with Butch. Dobbs, Kamara and Jennings could make me smile. They softened the blow for a couple years. Now it’s worse than ever.

The feeling like vandy fans is accurate. I thought this during the Auburn game. Missed field goals, a back breaker pick six when Vols were in red zone while the rest of the team played a decent road game - with huge rushing yardage advantage. Finding a way to lose - used to laugh at Vandy each week but Vols now are less competitive than the sorry old Vandy teams. Incredible.

Less competitive and I don't think ANYONE is making fun of us, with the exception of maybe Uncle Lou. Pity is so much worse than being trash talked.

If I was a Penn State fan, pretty sure I would have walked away after the Sandusky scandal, it wasn’t just one rogue and disgusting coach, it was the program covering for him and putting a game before the lives of kids....I don’t know how people can rationalize what happened and still pull for that disaster of a program
If you dig down even deeper into all of the reporting and court documents, you will find that it was also large elements of the State College local citizenry that knew (or at least had suspicions) but chose to instead protect their cash cow school and football program and hero Joe Paterno. disgusting.

I don't get why the fan base can be happy with 7 wins when they from SC, Vandy, Missori, KY and weak non conference opponents while losing by double digits to AL, FL, GA.

We need a coach that enables us to compete, not be a bottom dweller killer

There is a very real chance Tennessee ends this year as a 2 win team. Only 2 wins. I never thought I’d ever see that. We are completely irrelevant.

This is the quietest, least hyped, most uneventful signing day I can ever recall. It feels like everyone involved with the program has cashed it in. Forget the flight trackers. Check the moving truck logs for all our coaches. It will be very interesting to hear what comes out about the last couple decommitments. It's not like we're filling those spots with better pieces. Would love to be a fly on the wall with the internal drama that must be going on and what is leading to some decisions. Whatever is going on, the whole program feels like a never ending funeral.

I agree OP, I think it is party because normally the season is over at this point and we focus more on recruiting. This year with ball games being pushed back and the year we have had watching the recruits come in is just Meh

Edit: Just saw this on 247Sports It might help explain some of the un-excitement (is un-excitement a word?)
Tennessee no longer 'hot team' on recruiting trail

Didn’t realize it was signing day until I got a text about someone signing. Do not care.

It’s because we know we suck and no fun surprises are coming this year. Usually we are at least thinking we are good

On the flip side our
