let's pump the brakes on how this is some massive game changer.

Yes, Im glad we got a guy with a good rep and the reason we should be most thankful is now we can move forward with the coaching search and not
be in limbo there.

But some of you acting like us hiring an AD with a good rep is going to matter a ton in the end. Or is a signal that we are on the right track. Or are going to be able to attract a much bigger name coach.

All that is nonsense. ADs dont win games. And unless there is some special connection(like there was with this guy and JH, who most here wouldnt be over the moon about) coaches don't go somewhere because of the AD. And even then probably not. The head coach we bring in and his staff are going to be the difference makers or not. Im hopeful we find a guy who can put together a string of great seasons, but Im not going to believe that an AD hire means a lot.

A lot of college football fans probably couldnt even tell you who Alabama's AD is. Or clemsons AD. Or Georgia's AD.

I get it...we are thirsty. Very thirsty. But just because we are we shouldn't be lighting cigars because we just brought in the guy who will bring in the guy that matters. Sheesh.....

The same thing has happened with hiring the last 4(now going on 5) coaches, except maybe DD. A lot of rah-rah "we are on the right track now" type BS.

You know when we are on the right track? when we are booking our atlanta hotel rooms.....Until then let's not blow smoke up our asses. And certainly not for hiring the guy who has to hire(or hell plays a role in) the guy that matters.....

IMO you are missing the bigger point. This guy was the highest paid AD in the state of Florida before we came into the picture. No reason to leave his cushy job unless he got some key questions answered. Questions like:

Madam Chancellor how screwed are we with the NCAA

What's my budget on hiring a new coach and staff

Is this my call, the boosters, or yours

What guarantees do I have to a long term commitment to moving this program forward

That's why this hire was huge.

You're right. Fans don't know who AD's are at particular schools. But, you can rest assured coaches do...and that's what matters. We aren't looking for fans, we're looking for a coach.

Chaney is the 2nd highest paid OC in the country and fielded on of the worst offenses in college football. Being well paid doesnt mean you are good. The guy is 1 for 3 on football coach hires and the 1 is not doing so hot at a big boy program. Everybody was all excited about dave hart and a lot of people were pumped about john currie. OP is right...everybody needs to pump the brakes and see what he actually brings here. Some people in here would get excited about a dog turd on a biscuit if the media hyped it a little.

Good AD's aren't talked about because nobody wants to lose them, they are the straw for the drink. The starter of this thread needs to learn about what is entailed as AD and how much it truly matters. We haven't had a solid AD since Dickey. Yes it is reason to be excited, yes we got away to go but this was a big major step and without this step the other steps don't potentially climb as high. Yes it is a good time to be excited about the prospects for the next hire our HC!!!! GBO!!!!!

His job wasn't to hire a coach who would win at Nebraska you dolt. His job was to hire coaches who could win at UCF. And you are still missing the point. He wouldn't leave a cushy ass job unless those questions were satisfactorily answered.

3/3 on football coaches and a slew of great basketball hires.

In other words.. you don't get an AD like that unless he KNOWS he has the proprler leadership and professional/financial backing to be successful. Especially in a situation like we find ourselves in.

We've all discussed it. TN has not acted like the elite athletics program that it truly is for a long, long time. The hiring of White is an indication that things have changed.

Now, White and the new HC are not guaranteed to succeed because there is no guarantee on such things but this time around we can at least find comfort in the fact it wasn't due to a lack of effort or complete ineptitude.

The AD hires the football head coach.

This guy is one of the best AD’s in all of college sports.

All of his major hires have been freakin home runs for their programs.

Who knows what “will” happen........but this guys should give everyone (who is a Tennessee fan) confidence.

What’s not to like?

Interesting how the other SF has provided good info recently and now we have this SF who is a "new member." Not interested in what this guy has to say...

Debate team?
How is he 1 of 3 on his hires? Lol. Do you even bother to do your research? He hired Scott Frost who turned UCF around. Then hired Josh Huepel who has actually won more games than Frost. Hired Lance Leipold at Buffalo who has won the his conference in back to back seasons. Hired Nate Oats at Buffalo who did so well Alabama went and hired him. Now he's winning the SEC currently. But yeah this guy is one of 3 lmao. You're a long ways away from even thinking about a debate....obviously

Josh Huepel's team has gotten worse every single year he coached at UCF and what is Lance's record in the MAC again?
