Give the players slack....

As my dad said to me on my 18th B-day, "You're a man, and now you have all the responsibilites that men do.

Reality-men 3, 4, 5 years younger than him used to have wives, children, homes, and jobs. It's only since the emphasis on a college education that men of 20 years are no longer considered "men". Doesn't make it right to give Crompton a bashing, but doesn't make it wrong for one of his peers such as myself to express my unhappiness.

The University pumps millions of dollars into caring and providing for students like Crompton while students like myself work hard to pump thousands of dollars into the university just to have an education. They've paid me 6.90 an hour for nearly two years to do things I'm sure most of our scholarship athletes don't know how to do. Then when the economy got rough, they gave Fulmer a raise and cut my hours so much that it forced me out of a job. Tell me I don't have a right to criticize one of my peers-ok....I disagree.

Have you SEEN how those guys get treated? Full scholarships, top of the line transportation, meals that are of much greater quality than the average student's food court, and the dorms....

Just give em an apartment complex why dontcha? Forget that half of the dorms on campus don't even have air conditioning! The athletes' dorms, however, isn't one of those....not by a long shot.

And their practice facilities? Fulmer forbid the academics have buildings that are equal in quality to that of the athletic programs'.

I mean, c'mon...the academics wouldn't have a school without football right??

Or is it, football wouldn't have a school with academics?

These 18-22 year old "kids" are MEN. They do deserve part of the blame and should be able to handle the criticism. Just admit when you've made a mistake. But they take the criticism just like their coach. Who cares about the fans, they know nothing about football.

This offensive staff was dealt a pair of dueces in a game of stud and there's no bluffing since you have to show your cards on the field. There is a line where players play and coaching stops.

This team is 3-1 with current coaches and Rick (not Casey) Clausen at QB.

This is not to lionize our coaches but merely to point out that in the first four games of this season a decent QB ups our wins by 2.

An offensive coordinator that recognizes when the run game is working and the pass game is failing ups our win total by 1. A coach that can get players to play special teams decently makes us at least competitive in another game.

It seems to me that this entire team has been given TOO MUCH slack. Missed tackles, stupid penalties, personal fouls, mismanaged clocks...the list goes on and on. I have watched several videos of football "practice" where the players entertained a reporter by trying to rap, or dance or show off other "special talents"
WHY weren't they PRACTICING????

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO VOLS........
GO BIG ORANGE ..................

YES-CPF, as head coach, has the ultimate responsibility in all of this. He needs to change his plays up a bit and find a better system for running this program because its not running efficiently at the moment.

HOWEVER,
Crompton is intelligent and old enough to know he's not being a strong member of his team. He's supposed to be a leader-someone who can unify his offensive line instead of someone who is playing a major role in breaking them down. He doesn't seem to be taking in any of the criticism (the REAL criticism by people who know what they're talking about). "I'll have to watch the tapes" just isn't cutting it. So, even though CPF has a responsibility to play or cut Crompton, Crompton also has a responsibility to do what's best for his team....even if that means voluntarily sitting out a game.

Not a foregone conclusion. I think Crompton has taken too many head shots to the cranium area.

Don't have a problem with the points you made, just that decent QB would have, IMO anyway, covered both those issues.

In fact, I personally think the reason Clawson was trying to pass against UCLA was he saw on film what was exposed by BYU. That's a TERRIBLE pass defense but Crompton couldn't make them pay for it.

Again, this isn't about trying to prop up the coaching but pointing out the coaching (even if you want to call it poor coaching) would still be worth no worse than 3-1 with only yeoman's work being done at QB.

“Right now I don’t know why it wasn’t working,” Crompton said about the offense. “I need to get back and look at the film and see. Other than that, I don’t know what to tell you.”

This coming from a guy who has played 4 games and still has no clue to his role in the poor offensive play....this just seems to speak volumes.

Coach speak from your starting QB is not cutting it...he needs to fess up and let the staff know he does not understand the plays and would like to see another QB have a shot....for the sake of his team mates.
