Give the Outback a Big Round of Applause

I am so glad we don't play in the Outback, but it would be terrible to fall to the MCB. If the Peach Bowl committee has any sense they will select us. We haven't played there in a few years. We are excited to be in a bowl again. Half of east Tennessee hates VT and we ain't played them since Peyton was a freshman (go figure). There is a lot of interest in this game nationally. I don't think people want to watch a UGA team on the decline, I think they want to watch and see what this coaching staff can do with a month to prepare for a superior opponent.

Agreed that UT-VPI is probably a more interesting matchup, nationally speaking, but the Chicken Bowl cares more about selling the game out than anything. UGA-Clemson is guaranteed to sell out because both schools are less than an hour and a half from the stadium. UT-VPI would probably sell out.....but in a bad economy, you never really know, do you?

The things bowls care about, in order: 1. Selling tickets. 2. Selling tickets. 3. Potential TV ratings. 4. Potential hotel business. That's it. Whether it's a good matchup and how good the teams are is a completely ancillary factor.

Gary Stokan, president of the Chick-fil-A bowl, said Tuesday night that his bowl has no "clear-cut favorite" from the SEC and hasn't extended an invitation to a team. He said Georgia is still in the mix.

"In the bowl business, you hear a lot of things this time of year," Stokan said. "Until official invitations are given and official invitations are accepted, there's nothing in concrete."

Stokan said among reasons Tennessee would be attractive is that it played Alabama and Florida close, won three of its last four and has an excited fan base with a new coach in Lane Kiffin. He said Georgia's pluses include playing a rugged schedule including a win over rival Georgia Tech.

A 50/50 chance, and Clemson and FSU are pivotal. If UT is kicked down to Shreveport (MC and Liberty have already extended), I think Kiffin should pull a ND and let the players vote. I'm sure they'll vote to go, and it really is their decision. The fans will then get to vote with ticket sales.

I know that a lot of people can't afford to do it, but it would be great if all the vol fans that have bought tickets just tore them up if we don't get the nod.

How funny would it be to see a half empty peach bowl with UGA playing there.

I'd put selling tickets at #1 tv ratings / contract #2 and tickets at #3 again.
They typically clear with the network while deciding.

Would UGA v. Clemson draw more national attention than UT vs. VT?

both are pretty regional, but VT has had more prime success in the previous 6-8 years than Clemson.

Regardless of who the ACC team is they could have announced the SEC team if they were interested in UT. They are trying to figure out how to get UGA in there.

I think it would be hilarious if all the vol fans who already bought the tickets refused to resell them. I am sure that would leave a few empty seats.

How about this? Since the Outback Bowl screwed everything up, let's all go to the local Outback Steakhouse, order a glass of water, and pull out a Chick-fil-a sandwich.

Hilarious! Ask for lemon in the water... leave all the trash on the table and leave an IOU from Auburn for a tip.

Or just not go to the Outback at all. Wonder if their business will drop in Knoxville?

It wount be half empty but they will not sell out, the UGA fan base just dosn't care and Clemson can't sell out their own stadium.

Virginia Tech has a bigger national profile than Clemson. Lane Kiffin has a vastly bigger national profile than Georgia. I don't think there's much question that UT-VPI would draw higher TV ratings than UGA-Clemson.

The problem is that the Atlanta Sports Council has to keep their constituency in this city happy, and I'm sure there's a ton of pressure on them to keep the leghumpers from falling all the way to Shreveport. If they have the tantalizing possibility of hosting a traditional old-school southern rivalry like UGA-Clemson, I don't think they'll be able to help themselves.

Be a bad move on their part.

Why? If they sell out the game and keep all the guys they do business with here in Atlanta happy, they'd probably see that as a win. They're not going to ingratiate themselves much with the local money if they pick the Vols and UGA fans have to freeze their arses off in Shreveport. They may care more about that than they do getting a slightly higher profile game in UT-VPI.

It is not if, but when they announce UT to Music City. But that is if they bump UK to Shreveport. UK has packed that stadium the last two times they played there.

QUOTE]

They don't like KY as much as you think...the fans don't stay and spend any money in the city....they go home after the game!!
