Give me your Top 3 canidates...

Frost and Campbell are more likely than most.
Petrino would probably come.
But, I'd make James Franklin tell me no.
I think Shoop would be a good HC.
Now, one that is out of the norm, but I would like is Ken Niumatalolo.
Before I get blasted, look at what he's done at Navy.
Give him some top notch recruits, and I think we could be better than what Paul Johnson has done at GT.

Doeren does have NC State in the top 16 but his record vs top 15 teams is as bad as Butch's. He has doon a good job there thus far and if they manage to beat Notre Dame Saturday his name will start being tossed out by media types. However, UT can only hire a proven coach w/sustained success at major level.

Why would he leave NC State? Money? Wants a challenge? He go 8-4 there 4ever and have job for life.

Strong is the best fall back option if the likes of Kelly, Gruden, Mullen, and, yes, even Les Miles turned us down.

Give me a guy with some form of championship experience in the SEC, if we can't get Grude or Kelly.

Fuente would be a much better choice than any of those if we could get him to leave VT.

I'll take a swing:

1) Johnny Majors- UT legend, proven winner, unfinished business.
2) Phil- make Peyton OC/ QB coach.
3) Shut down the program because it's officially dead.

This makes as much sense as the rest of the dribble in this thread.

What about Dana Holgorsen? A pretty dang good P5 HC -- experience, good pedigree, right age, proven, good fit. Considering that WVU isn't an easy situation to be able to win the Big12, he's doing pretty well there.

WV MetroNews – Holgorsen contract extension through 2021 exceeds $18M

"MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia reached a contract extension with Dana Holgorsen, signing the coach through 2021 with a package worth $18.6 million before incentives.

Holgorsen’s 2017 salary will climb to $3.5 million, a bump from the $2.9 million he was slated to earn under his previous deal. By the final year of the extension, Holgorsen would receive $4 million...

If Holgorsen leaves for another job, he would owe West Virginia between $1 million and $3 million depending on his departure date."

Affordable -- small buyout. And UT would be a much better job for him. WVU's Big12 away games are almost 1/2 way across the country. Seems like a good fit. I think he'd jump at the opportunity.

I think with a good DC & staff, UT's recruiting would rock and he could have UT competing for championships pretty quickly.

Taking Gruden out of equation.

I want Tennessee to swing for fences.

Petersen, Patterson, Franklin.

More realistic...

Patterson, Jimbo Fisher, Frost.

Why go to another state if the best fishing hole is in Memphis....grass is not always greener on the other side

Mike Norvell is credited for being one of the best offensive minds in the business....do you think he could replicate his offensive scheme at Tennessee

Sometimes you are looking for something and it is right under your nose....

By years end is appears Mike's name is going to be at or near the top of the Head Coaching searchs
