Give me your Top 3 canidates...

What if we name Shoop as interim and give him the chance to interview for the top spot if he does well. People were saying he would soon be a head coach when he took the job here. I would like to see what he could do as interim.

Flash, you obviously haven’t paid attention the point I was making. I was being sarcastic about the top ten class rankings.

I totally agree with your points. However, there are people are here that say a good coach should be able to recruit anywhere regardless of school. I agree with you.

Some people on here do not.

My bad. Would love to have Gruden or another big time hire but I believe it just isn't happening. I think Campbell and Frost are more realistic options and two guys who have done a great job so far.

Would be very happy with frost, but would he bolt for Nebraska? I'd like to see Fuente get the job. He's my 1a choice. Brohm would be my 1b choice.

Charlie Strong, easy choice. We missed him once before, he already has South Florida in top 25.

That would have to be the buyout clause with Frost, some kind of guarantee he can't leave us for Nebraska. I like Brohm but want to see how the season plays out after the bad loss to Rutgers, even though they doubled them up in yardage they still lost somehow. Fuente is a home run hire but don't see him leaving Va Tech.

I musta missed the top 10 classes he’s bringing into Ames.

That's the thing, Iowa state was horrible last year with very little talent and he already has them at the top of the conference with a huge victory over Oklahoma, something Butch certainly wasn't able to accomplish. He can coach and develop players

Old guy? You lost me at that one. 'Remember Mike DeBord? All those "He's too old" attitudes did irreparable damage to his desire to stick to the program...that and Butch...and had to have led to his leaving this embattled situation. How many records did his offense set at UT in '16? Get off that shtick! Miles isn't too old. Neither is Bob Stoops. IMHO, the potential HCs out there this season...those who would maybe come to Knoxville...is encouraging. That quite a number of them would be an improvement to Butch is a given. Miles would win here. So would Stoops. For that matter, close to a dozen of those current and budding big-time HCs could arguably make UT into a winner; place them back into the national conversation. I say open the safe for Chip Kelly and take him before he winds up beating us down the road someplace else (floorduh?). No other coach out there provides the pizzaz to their programs than he can. Let's get him then hold back the urge (listen negas) to blast him before he's got his "ducks" in a row at UT. That would also go for any other coach Currie winds up bringing here. Note: Please don't confuse this post as one which is, nonetheless, suggesting supporting some non-P5 "riser." NO EXPERIMENTS!

Well, Dick LeBeau is old and probably fought in the Civil War, but he was the Defensive Coordinator at Pittsburgh for a decade. In fact, the linebackers coach was an up and comer and he threatened to leave if not promoted to D.C. so, Pittsburgh let Lebeau go, so they could keep the younger coach. Now, LeBeau is at Tennessee....
Too old????

Bill Snyder? Too old???

Since nobody ever wants to predict realistic choices. Here we go.

1. Belichek
2. Nick Saban
3. God
4. Jon Gruden
5. Chip Kelly
6. Reincarnated Bear Bryant

I mean if we are reincarnating or resurrecting...surely we would rather have Neyland over Bryant?

Bring in a D guy like Venables then get Billy Napier who might be the best OC out there. Napier's family is from Tennessee he came really close to being named Saben's OC and a top recruter. He has Arizona St' s O playing lights out. He wants to come back home!

We should definitely take a shot at Fuentes, not sure if he would leave VT, but definitely worth a try.

Charlie Strong was terrible at Texas, 3 straight losing records. Yes, he has a good record at South Florida , but he took over a team there which was built by their previous coach and has 16 returning starters and a very easy schedule (Sagarin ranks it at #123, no opponents have a winning record), definitely way over-rated. Why would you want him? We need someone who will lead us to championships, not another mediocre coach.
