In no particular order my top 3 prime candidates are...

Stoops (I get it he says he's retired but you at least try)

Gary Patterson
James Franklin
Chip Kelly

You guys are either really smoking the crack rock or must know something I don't to be throwing out James Franklin's name. Why would he leave his dream job at Penn State?

CBS Sports had a story the other day. It was saying P-ST (the AD and Admin) was preparing for A&M to make a run at Franklin.

If A&M keeps winning they may not be looking. If P-ST is preparing.............Franklin may be looking.

He may be just trying to get even more money.......I don't know; however The P-ST admin are preparing for this to happen (look at my post a couple spots ahead).

I am sure they want to keep him, and are going to make him an extension with prob a big pay increase. If this is happening........he may look at options.

Sure guys like that are in a good position; however now days money talks.........also the prestige of being one of the top few paid coaches.......also if a coach can get top 3 or so money he can expect to get top money for everything else (his staff, facilities, the entire program)


But again.........he will prob be positioning himself to get a big raise......if he can finish top or top 2 in the East he will want to be paid like Urban and Harbough (Urban makes over 6 million, Harbough makes over 9, and Franklin only makes 4.5).

Seriously, who has been the big name hire since 1970’s? Expect a coach in a mid-level conference that has a great marketing idea! But pleeeeeeeeez prove me to be wrong! I’m with the Chip Kelly Fans, someone with an attitude.

2.) Jeff Brohm
3.) Mike Norvell
4.) Brent Venebles
5.) Chad Morris

I think You give Patterson a buzz just to see if he answers. But the other 4 are the most realistic candidates giving the history of coaching hires this University has made. Chip Kelly and Gruden are pipe dream hires and probably not gonna happen.

Other than Petersen, Gruden, Kelly, Patterson, Shaw, and other obvious longshots like Swinney... who do you got in your top 3?

I would love to see Les Miles

He would be my 1-3 right now

He knows the league and has had the second best team behind Alabama for years.

And that was when the west was loaded, I would love to see him in the east & at a school that can recruit quarterbacks

UT football is long past “lay it up safe” time,
That BS is why we are where we are for a decade.

Time to make a hire that helps us excell

He seems to be the only power-run guy on anyone's radar. That gives him a chance, IMO.

Nobody suggested that we skip the part where we try to hire an big-name coach. But's it very possible, if not probable, that none of them want to be at Tennessee. So I want to know who's the best of who's left.
