Give me your Top 3 canidates...

1. Peterson
2. Patterson
3. Fleck

Peterson's contract base salary is more than Jones is making total I believe. To get him, you would have to convince him to leave the west which he's shown no interest in doing... and win a bidding war with UW... AND pay his buyout which is based on a 6 or 7 year contract.

I don't think Gruden has ever been realistic... but he's probably more so than Peterson.

Peterson is the 24th highest paid HC (Butch is 16th). Peterson makes 3.6 million. His buyout is listed at 2.5 mil (2nd or 3rd year of his contract......1.5 in the 4th year).

No that’s Petersen’s original contract. He signed a new deal this spring that extends him through 2023. His average salary over the life of the contract is $4.8 million with potentially $1.5 million in incentives per year.

you are right, but as of this year Peterson makes 3,605,000 (and some change). His salary is structured to go up as the years go on. His salary also give him the ability to make around 1 mil more based on performance.

Based on what I have read, His salary is still less than Butch's, but has the ability to go as high as the 8 highest paid in the nation (based on performance). What I have read could be wrong, as I do not know but it was from June or July of 2017.

the buy out I had stated before was from last years contract, I cannot find a current buy out anywhere; however by the way his previous contracts were structured, and his salary structure I would bet he has a stand a lone buy out.

Dabo Swinney
Gruden
Chip Kelly

I don't think Dabo will show up in Knoxville on his own....but maybe if the cow kicks him in the head while milking it he will get confused and show up at the wrong orange building.

Anyone still think Charlie Strong is a good candidate. He's still a hell of a coach. Just a bad fit at Texas.

1. Gruden (Not happening)
2. Kelly
3. Fuente (doubt it, UT is a lateral move from VA Tech)
4. Bob Stoops
5. Dan Mullen

Can't roll the dice on an unproven coach (Frost, Brohm, Norvell, Fleck..) or a sketchy character guy (Petrino, Kiffen, Freeze...)

Another guy that's a favorite on here who has been interested before. I would like Gary Patterson from TCU. His specialty is defense yet he's hired good coaches and had pretty prolific offenses as well. I think you must call him and do what it takes to make him say yes. He's been very successful at TCU, But give him our resources and facilities and fan base and he will do great in this weak east.

If you can't get Stoops which seems to be the case, Patterson would be my number 1, then guys like Kelly, Fuente, Miles, etc...

I definitely think Patterson would listen if a legit offer was extended.

We had our chance with Patterson in 2008. He seems content at TCU now that they’re in the B12. Would be a homerun hire no doubt, but unlikely at this point.

Idk I think it's more realistic than most think. If our admin and boosters are serious about getting a winner. For everything he's done for that program he has not gotten much support, did you see pics of their game today stadium was empty. If he was here our stadium would be rocking. I feel bad for the guy what more can he do there.

This next hire could be the most important in a long time. Screw it up and we are the new vandy (we are this year).

I am unbelievably shocked at the number of people posting, what I would typically consider as smart vol fans, that actually placed Chip Kelly in their top 3. Are you kidding me? You actually think he could succeed in the SEC? He created or improved over time a gimmicky offense that everyone now has caught onto, i.e. Helfrich out as he ran the same thing in the PAC-12 and couldn't win. Not counting extremely soft defenses at Oregon and even with all the Samoans on the D-line and O-line and they are notorious for being strong. His defenses would get destroyed in the SEC. Also, per his former players including the NFL, he disrespects his players. And don't give me the "He won the PAC-12 and made it to the BCS", really, the PAC-12 when they were down during those years and he still had to out scored everyone 52-45. And a physical team like Stanford beat him more times than anyone. If he was hired would be the softest TN team every assembled. Other than Mariota, how many NFL players did he produce that are doing well in the league? I really thought you guys knew your football a little better than this. I am literally shocked at the number of people choosing him. Wow, I can't even the understand the thought process. If we hire Chip Kelly, it would be about as bad as hiring Dooley.

If you ask ten different people on who to hire as UT's new football coach you would get 10 different answers. But you know when it comes right down to it ask yourself who has had success in the SEC. Jon Gruden has not and he make over 6 million a year as a sport announcer for ESPN. Charlie Strong would be a disgrace, Chip Kelly is under FBI investigation, so who has a proven record. None of these 3. But there is one who stands out and that is Les Miles. He would my new coach....

If he flops here after flopping there? No thanks. Let him prove himself again at USF. For now, I am still offended he turned us down last time.

1. Chip Kelly...his style fits our recruits over the last 5 years. Instant credibility.

2. Scott Frost...yes I know he's not a power 5 coach but again his style fits our recruits.

3. Jon Gruden...instant credibility. Pro style doesn't fit our recruits but that would change within 2 years as what recruit wouldn't want to play for him.

I will remember CBJ as the coach that dug us out of a black hole left by CDD. We are a way better program both in the classroom and on the field than we were 5 years ago and for that I say...Thank you CBJ!
