I think we have more of a chemistry problem than talent.

Our team is young and we have no expectations and no real leaders yet.

I think we will see what we are about AFTER the pre-tourney

This team is really bad...If we win over 12 games I'll be surprised...But this is Tennessee mens basketball...Sad to say I'm used to failure when it comes to that program.

Going to be a long year I believe, we should be happy with any win this team gets. Should win Tuesday so that could be a start.

How long you guys think Barnes stays? I think McCall from Chattanooga would be a great get, but I think another team will probably pick him up after this year

A few of Chattanooga's coaches would be great additions, because they have an AD who knows how to do his job properly.

Barnes doesn't even recruit, like at all it seems. He is probably laughing his arse off at dave hart.

Some of you guys have made some really rocket science observations. Good lord! Loaded with freshmen and one game and we are "terrible". Holy jesus.
Chattanooga is a very good basketball team. They have some real arrogant azzholes on that team though. Thought they should have been teed up a couple times.

Will Wade; still who I want to get before it's too late.

The only chemistry problem this team has is between players and coach.

Bruin, we get it; you don't like Barnes, nor do you approve of his coaching/recruiting.

That said, if you can't watch that game last night and admit that there is an on-court chemistry problem with these kids, then you just have an axe to grind, which won't come as a surprise to many.

Chemistry issues in game 1 for a team with 8 newcomers and nothing in the way of upperclassman leadership as of yet is to be expected. Missed passes, miscommunications, blown defensive assignments, defensive switches; all were issues last night, and all can be attributed to a lack of team chemistry and experience playing together.

Before the season, I set the O/U at 12.5 wins myself. I don't see 13 wins on our schedule.

I feel like we will improve as the season goes on, but I don't believe Rick Barnes is the kind of coach who can consistently win with less talent and experience.

In the sense that Chattanooga has a better team...you can give Vols some slack for losing...but..there is no way an SEC team like UT should have a worse team than Chatta nooga. THAT is the embarrassing part. Gawd. If we are at the tragic point that losing to schools like Chattanooga at home is expected...then we are in seriously grave shape as a basketball program.

Yes, this loss wasn't unexpected except to the casual Tennessee basketball fan. Chattanooga is picked to win their conference, is upperclassman heavy, and has several transfers from bigger D-1 schools. In addition to a decreased talent gap than what we are accustomed to, I think they are better coached and the added incentive of beating "big brother" on their home floor.

And this is why I *****ed this summer about Tennessee not taking the summer trip in August that you are allowed every four years. Barnes scoffed at the media asking him about it this spring saying I doubt we will but if we do it will be to Canada. You need to plan these trips months in advance, not last minute. They would have got 10 full practices where they could have put in their sysytem for the new guys, 4 games and 3 practices on trip. That way you already have started install, seen different players on floor against other teams, jump start on rotation, on court chemistry and be ahead of the curve.

There's probably a good reason. Taking 7 brand new guys oversees? No thanks. I won't be surprised if he goes next year.

Ben Howland took 7-8 new guys overseas because Howland has year 3 as the year formNCAA tourney according to Jon Rothstein and wanted to get his newcomers experience and gel better. He wants to win this year but NIT would probably be the ceiling for them. Why wait till next year when the guys have already been playing together? It's a great opportunity to get a jump on the season with a young squad, maybe get a couple of wins you would not have gotten while you were still adjusting to each other.

Edit: Example why you take the newcomers over now. Howland found a guy Tyson Carter who he thought would need a year to adjust and wasn't expecting much from him. He killed it on overseas trip, gained confidence and is now starting and had 17 points in their opener.

We're sticking to the 4 year plan. No short cuts.
Add a center year 3.
If we miss on Stokes , add a game changer year 4.

I agree, that trip would have been benefitial.

What did he do

"Well it goes back to us thinking we needed to rebound the ball. From what we’ve seen in practice, Lew hasn’t been one of those rebounders. We don’t want to post him up, but first play, he’s goes in and posts up and almost turns it over. That’s not what we want. That goes back to execution. Lew’s playing as much as anybody and has a lot of confidence in him, but he’s one guy coming out of the start of the season that you expect to really know what we need. With switching, he had to work hard to stay in front of the guards. I thought Kyle [Alexander] really gave us a great night when you look at what he did. He’s improved a lot. He had eight rebounds, four blocks, and a steal and he got caught back there a few times because of our guards giving up penetration when he had to try to make two plays at once but there’s no doubt that our defense broke down when it happened. And a big part of the game, with 10 minutes to go, we missed five out of seven free throws or we could have gotten back in it, or at least turned the momentum. Those free throws were big at that time."

What's said, is that Vol fans have been told to "be patient." For so many years. I hear that word in my damn sleep. I want wins. In a Vol for life, but damn this is killing me.
