Did anybody hear the play by play guy on ESPN say that when Aaron Murray scored the first TD. Was he trying to upset an entire fan base?

He has said it for all of their touchdowns, and the game isn't on ESPN..

He probably thought that was real original.

Because only Tennessee can use "Give Him 6", right?

I don't give a damn if he says it for USC/Stanford tonight, but to say it against Tennessee, when we are famous for that phrase, is a little bit "in your face", I'd think.

Imagine UT was winning and the announcer shouted "Tennessee just stepped on their face with a hob-nailed boot." I imagine UGA fans would be quite upset about that as well.

No. It's simply a phrase you use to express a team scored a touchdown.

Get over it, we don't own the phrase. I don't think John Ward was the first to ever use it, either.

GIve him 6 is not near as recognizable as that call. It's ignorant to expect every announcer to know what a play by play announcer for a random team, who he's not a fan of, that retired long ago... used to say.

Do you read what I write? Or are you just going to keep on with this "we don't own it" argument? I am pretty sure I acknowledged that.

I'm not upset by it, but I can see how some Vol fans would identify with it and how they would take it, especially on a bad day. Just playing devil's advocate.

I don't think you're reading what I'm saying.

You said you're pissed off cause he said that against Tennessee..which means, you don't think he should be able to do so. Which is a completely, 100% retarded statement.

But I don't expect much more from the majority of this fanbase.

i think you're overblowing it. john ward was obviously known amongst the tennessee fanbase for saying it, but it's not like "give him 6" is never used by other commentators on air.

I didn't expect him to know it necessarily, which is why I started the thread asking that question. Everybody here needs to chill out with crap like "get over it" and that's "ignorant" when somebody asks a damn question. You're more cynical than online RPG gamers.

I think it's a pretty recognizable call. We heard it every time Tennessee scored for 40 years.

I don't know if anyone else ever says it, but I sure noticed it. So that leads me to think that it is not widely said.

You don't read what I say. I didn't say I was "pissed off". I asked if the announcer was trying to upset our fan base. You can go back and read it. It was an honest question about whether or not he knew that was a phrase associated with UT. Get off your high horse. Grow up. Calling other people's statements "retarded" when you can't even keep up with the subject matter is ironic.

This is a very stupid argument! Announcers say it ALL the time. Let's get over it, not a big deal.

Yeah, I'm over it. I just wanted feedback on what others thought. Maybe that's not such a good idea. Pretty sensitive people around here.

Sorry but that's ignorant to expect anyone other than a Tennessee fan to have consistently listened to the vol network broadcasts.
