Give Butch a chance to right the ship.

So wait, you were wrong about Dooley but thought you were right. And, that somehow proves that you are right about Butch because you think you are?

Maybe you're just not very good at evaluating coaching?

I was right about Dooley and I'm right about Butch. That doesn't make me special, though. That basically puts me in line with everyone else who isn't a Tennessee fan.

we were almost there. almost

When Butch had finally had some quality depth (going into last season) and he would play Uber conservative in games, I felt he was going to continue to coach not to lose. To me, Butch has never had that killed instinct in the past two seasons. He never had that at Cincy either. Plus, he's a walking head case. Dudes gonna have a heart attack if he doesn't calm down.

I never had any belief he could. I naturally assumed he was a safe hire that could recruit and elevate the program for a better coach.

I agree with this. And I'm ok with admitting I'm wrong if it turns out that way. I guess I just have a bigger fear of the unknown. And I'm the first to admit I didn't grow up as a Vol fan and have all the knowledge about the history of the program like some of you all do. But now I'm a season ticket holder and thoroughly enjoy the passion that comes with being a Vols fan and a fan of a team in the SEC.

The Vols bilge pump can't keep up with the water leak in the hull:eek:lol:
don your life vest Vol fans

You crack me up. Most said CBJ could not recruit. Now it is let him build the roster for another coach.

Justice for some of you would be CBJ being fired, the coach of your choice being hired followed by that coach losing 8 games in his first year.

You will never be satisfied.

His "everything is fine" mantra at yesterday's press conference was a troubling omen for me that he either doesn't see the depth and seriousness of these issues or else that he thinks a mere tweaking of the current way things are done is all that is needed.

Seriously what is he suppose to say? The sky is falling? The players just can't play? The coaches just can't coach?

Negativity when a team is facing what this team is facing just adds fuel to the fire and drives them further down the path.

I applaud him for NOT throwing anyone under the bus. I know some want him to do that - but that is not the answer.

I agree, what if we had fired Fulmer in 1996 after the Memphis loss? Or Johnny Majors in the early 80's?

Butch has us and will keep us competitive, he absolutely needs to get better and if he doesn't in the next couple years he'll be gone or if he regresses badly next yr. But for now, barring a complete collapse this season he's still out coach.

Nobody is suggesting firing him simply because of the loss to SCjr. It is just the latest indication that he is in well over his head. The job is too big for Butch.

He's done an admirable job at rebuilding the program. I give him full credit for that. But he's not a good COACH...from a developmental or gameday standpoint. He is still learning on the job. I'm of the opinion that his recruiting is being exposed. The number of defections have gutted his best classes, and his results in the field are no longer attracting top talent.

Again, it's obvious that we have two schools of thought on what a "real fan" is. Some find loyalty to the head man to be that indicator, while others if us look at the health of the program. Butch has hit his high water mark here, and should be commended, but it's never going to get better under his leadership. The question is how long we spin our wheels before making a change

Never said he couldn't recruit. However, justice for me is simple-Butch needs to overhall the majority of his offensive staff this offseason. I think everyone but Azzani and Scott can go. I do have serious doubts he will do that because he continues to waltz out Dobbs at starter with a "Dobbs can do no wrong" mentality. If doesn't even have the balls to realize Dobbs is a major liability with the football, what gives any of us confidence he can address the glaring issues with his system and staff?

Butch recruited very well so far because he could sell playing time. Now he's recruiting a bunch of 3 stars to "develop"- I don't think he should be fired after a loss. However, the SC loss is one that can be a tipping point for a program. Especially one with lofty expectations laid on the program by the head coach.

I read on some thread that butch says it takes 7 years to build the program---so he should get 3-4 more years!
