Gillespie is out

I liked Gillespie and all, but everyone needs to get a grip. I was surprised when they actually retained him. RG’s vision of RBs didn’t match up with Pruitt’s. No big deal.

No butch was...my opinion problem was butch didn't know how mold his offense to take advantage of both their skill sets

I'm sure he was in there demanding Hurd be sat down. C'mon man. You're blind. Butch has the call but I doubt rg demanded it.

I blame everyone involved. Coaching malfeasance.

I'm wondering..if I were CJP...would I be tempted to fill an open RB coaches job with a decent recruiter, offensive mind, who is now humbled and would be grateful for a second chance, motivated to fit in and be a team player, is capable of an analysts role at times.... Hugh Freeze.

If you’re worried about losing “one of the best recruiters and coaches on the former staff” then you have big problems!! Nothing against RG, however a fresh start for everybody is usually the best thing! Running back coaches are a dime a dozen!

I'm sorry, but I am getting less and less excited about this staff every day.

Call me a negavol or whatever you want, but I haven't seen a whole hell of a lot that makes me feel good.

Sadly I agree. How do you let the best coach on staff go.

Lol he was the best coach on the current staff to. Just saying.

Lol, RB coach is easy to replace.

And while RG did some great things while he was here, he’s probably not what Pruitt is looking for in a coach whether it has to do with recruiting or personal issues.

Obviously Pruitt isn’t a dumb ass so I’ll trust him on this.

To be fair we won’t know if he is or isn’t for a few years anyways

Well let’s see...Gillespie was in charge of managing the following players:

- Jalen Hurd. Great talent, but turned to the dark side. He started causing problems with not practicing, dictating what his role should be, causing dissension, etc....

- Alvin Kamara. NFL Rookie of Year. Was used in wrong role and greatly underutilized. Alvin quote: “s@#$ was *”$@$# up.

- John Kelly - Great talent. Turned to the dark side with off the field issues and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

So how well was this position managed?

You apparently misunderstood the comment - a reply to say that Gillespie might have been the "most proven assistant" on Butch's staff, but sure as hell not the "most proven assistant" on Pruitt's staff.

I guess the question I have is whether this keeping those with the relationships to recruits and high school coaches in the interim only to fire them after NSD is normal with a coaching change? That is what is happening here.

These are relationships that Pruitt and his staff should have been on the ground building from the moment after he was hired. Some of those relationships were completely destroyed by Dooley and had to be rebuilt.

Something seems very weird right now.

One of the best RB coaches and recruiters in the country leaving is a problem.

He may be a very good coach - by all appearances he is ok. He was part of the group that didn't get many touches for the NFL rookie of the year.

I can't label him a great recruiter. We don't seem to have a stockpile of studs at RB and his top recruit this year - flipped somewhere else on signing day.

If we hire a younger more charismatic recruiter for this role - I would label it a win and an upgrade. In business you are always evaluating your staff and if there is an opportunity to upgrade over an average performer - you might have to go that route.
