Agreed. That's why I said "at Cincy".....clear the deck and get this dude out of consideration from our Cincinnati contingent

as long he's out there, i just have a pit in my stomach that it's gonna be him.

The downside is that if Fulmer is the next AD, Gilbert could have been quite an asset to have on staff to handle the administrative areas that Phil is inexperienced with.

Hopefully Blackburn will now get the call to come here. Personally don't care if Fulmer is involved.

Jon Gilbert will be Southern Miss' new AD. Gilbert was previously executive senior associate AD at Tennessee and Dave Hart's No. 2 man.[/QUOTE

Thank god.. i honestly thought the administration would botch this AD hire and screw the fans and promote Gilbert... shewww!! Glad he's gone..

No offense to the guy, but he has the stink of Bama on him so I'm glad he's getting his opportunity somewhere else. Wish him the best, elsewhere. As we say down here, "sin has left a crimson stain"...

But what do I know, I'm still holding out for Paul Heyman getting the job. The press conferences and sideline reactions during games would be solid gold.

Still not sure I understand the need to bring Fulmer if we get Blackburn.

don't get it either, except some seem to think they're a package somehow...maybe because of Coach Fulmer's connection to UC and David Blackburn...:dunno:

GO VOLS!

Perhaps it's to pacify the booster(s) trying to block Blackburn.

Hire 'em both, I say. Let CPF do his fundraising magic while Blackburn settles into the rest of the AD role.

According to VQ, Blackburn has informed many people that he would immediately add Phil Fulmer to a position of prominence in the AD.
The powers-that-be at UT may feel the same, I don't know.
But if VQ is accurate, people will have to make peace with the person whom they think will make great decisions, being the same person who decides having Fulmer is the way to go.

I'm all for Blackburn/Fulmer. I think that would be a homerun hire and I believe a lot of the country would acknowledge it. They would think "oh crap" Tennessee is coming. Under Blackburn/Fulmer leadership things would get done at Tennessee. Plus it would show me that maybe, just maybe, the boosters are starting to get along and putting Tennessee first in making decisions. Also, that they are realizing how their previous decisions have put Tennessee in a huge hole that we have been trying to crawl out of ever since and finally start making decisions to put Tennessee back on top for good.

I'm very optimistic about this scenario, but I know it's a long shot. However, this news and the fact that Gilbert is supposedly taking Mike Ward with him, I wonder how that affects the AD hire timeline?

Do Fulmer and Blackburn have a good relationship? I would imagine so with so many years behind them, but curious as to why Fulmer is lobbying for the job so hard knowing Blackburn has been groomed and waiting for years. I know he wants the job too, just wondered if he was doing anything behind the scenes to cut off Blackburn and how well they would work together.
