Getting Drunk at Football Games

Are you assuming that I am driving home that night? Or are you just pissed cause I called you a moron after you made a moronic statement?
I think he said "tonight". It is not wise to provoke a tipsy mod having a bad night.

You see quite a few around. There is a pretty healthy alumni association that meets in a bar in Dallas for games.

I have to wonder if the few posters who suggested ushers do any regulating have ever been to a game at Neyland.

I'm of the opinion that quality beer ( Newcastle for instance ) should be sold not only at Neyland Stadium but on every street corner in America. I'm also of the opinion that anyone trying to pimp such foul libations such as Bud Lite or Coors Light and the like for 6 bucks a pop in Neyland can keep it and be hanged from the neck til dead for their trouble.

id pay 6 bucks for a southpaw as long as it was in one of those large white cups with the T on em, 6 for a beer at a football game (crappy beer or not) isnt that bad of a deal in comparison to most places

I do wish theyd sell beer/airplane bottles in neyland, as its been said numerous times, itd be no different than what goes on at every pro game (except with passion, excitement, and good playcalling without playing so soft as to not get anyone hurt....but thats another rant for another time...) If the pro venues can manage and so can numerous other college venues and bowl games can without any big issues in the past, I see NO reason that neyland cant be the same way....plus if beers are $6-8 a beer, no one is going to get 'loaded'...it just cost too much....and who doesnt like to enjoy a beer while watching football, thats just and All-American tradition....if you dont drink a beer while watching football, well, then the terrorists have already won....

I always slip the usher near us a miniature of Jack Daniels and $10 early in the game---he brings us ice later on.

considering alot of the ushers are almost 80 years old.....

The idea that one of those senior citizens could possibly break up a drunken fight in the student section or toss an inebriated fan is pretty absurd, and I don't want any more security in there. It's fun when an event doesn't look like KPD headquarters.

Yes, I think they should sell beer, but the fact that they don't has never been an impediment to my buzz. Flasks filled with bourbon mix nicely with the coca-cola products they do sell at the stadium.

This is exactly the point (which I know you would agree with). If they sold beer in the stadium, you'd buy it, but instead you're carrying in flasks of bourbon. Which means you end up with a lot more ethyl alcohol in your bloodstream than you would if you could just buy a few beers.

I drink alcohol at every single sporting event I go to, but the only ones I walk out of feeling even remotely drunk are college football games. Because I had to drink [extremely nice single-malt] whiskey while I was in there, because I wasn't allowed to buy any beer. I've never even heard of someone sneaking whiskey into a baseball game, for crying out loud. By making people sneak alcohol in, you push them to 40 percent straight liquor instead of 5 percent beer. Bad move.

Do cops still walk out toward the end of the game to prevent fans from rushing the field? For awhile there they had a real goon squad. I some dude get beat like he tried to kill the President simply because he jumped onto the field after the 2004 win over Florida.

Have not noticed, but I'm sure they do. Of the 3 games I went to last year, I was gone before the end.

Yeah, they do... and I find it amusing when we lose a game by 20+ and they still line up to guard the field.

Either way it doesn't matter, you are still going to have the same things going on. If it boosts revenue for UT then I'm all for it. Just have all the proceeds from the sales go to the Academic side, and all drunk in public citations funds go to the AD. It's a win win.

Pro, and all schools should sell beer. Hell, they should all sell daiquiris in novelty cups like Tulane does at the Dome. And the school could put up a sign that says "all liquor proceeds go to the women's studies department" so nobody's special lady would sweat them about knocking back a few.

Against it.

The whole principle of drinking is to get that high that alcohol gives you. If you need that to get you pumped for an SEC football game, good riddance, I say.

if our concessions are anything like last year, the beer will run out before the game starts anyways. so it doesn't matter. it would make better sense to sell cheap watered down beer. it can't be any worse than people sneaking in 180 proof whiskey.

Not everyone that drink's does so to get that "high".

Its the SEC. Hell your biggest game of the year is know as the largest cocktail party. I have drank for every game in college and I love it. Now I dont get so blackout im pissing myself but getting good and drunk is fun it makes the game alot more fun especially with the way UT has been playing since I was a freshman. I dont think we should sell beer because it would cause some issues that hwould have so much red tape it would be sick. The cops would be harder on drinkers and the fun of sneaking in booze would go away. I love to drink and I think the cops should ease up on tailgaters and then everything would be fine.
