Get real guys!

I thought you said he was a mediocre coach who couldn't win the division - I thought you meant the East. So you agree with a healthy roster he would have beat Vandy and SC?

He is, and he didnt.
You said SEC so I took that as the conference which drew a chuckle. If he can get UF down to 4-4 in the conference he will have a shot at the east. Assuming UGA really screws up with their incoming kids in the future.

Given their earlier performances I wouldn't put money on it.

Get real.

95% of Volnation would be thrilled with the season if Butch beats USC and Vandy with the East and the Sugar Bowl on the line.

When the hell did that become too much to ask for the UT HC?

Now. The fanbase is weaker than ever. It is okay to lose to two the worst teams in the SEC now.

I don't see anybody asking Jones to "dominate" anything.....simply win the bad DIVISION that he was overwhelmingly favorited to win. Just get to SECCG, no expectation to win it. Not sure how that's "dominating" and it's surely not unreasonable for Jones or any Tennessee coach after 4 seasons.

That would require good coaching. We're fresh out, here.

We aren't happy with those 2 losses but aren't going to go on and on about it especially considering the injuries and Hurd mess. I am happy with what Butch has done in such a short amount of time.

I think i made reference to a SEC championship. I wanted to win the east- but the beating we would have suffered in Atlanta would have been epic and very hard to forget. We should have won the EAST even with the injuries, I agree.

We should have won the east then told FL to go to Atlanta.

its called reality not sunshine. and his post really didn't even focus on "spewing sunshine all over butch's hot butt" so much as tennessee championship football in a historical context. did you read the same post i did?:crazy:

He didn't need to cause Fahr Butch!!!

EV, did we take the blue pill or the red one? The realists here are definitely in the minority.

And they claim that they're the realists lol

i've been on this forum a long time and i'd say in the past few years, we've become the definite minority. the rampant negativity and horse beating has hit fever pitch. its almost a lost cause trying to beat logic and reason into their empty skulls...

you realize a couple pages back i was being told that losing to vandy = "stuff happens".

no other explanation. no reason. just karma. lining up of hte starts. full moon. "stuff happens".

no other explanation.

and that's "the realist" perspective? we have the empty skulls?

when you choose to focus on 1 small interaction that didn't even include myself and then you try to use that to refute my realist perspective that had nothing to do with the loss to vandy (which i never made excuses for)... yeah that's pretty empty skull type stuff.

One of the posts you quoted referenced that individual, and it appeared you were lumping yourself with that "group" by your comment about the other "group".

No offense intended. Just pointing out how ridiculous this fan segregation can be.

the most ridiculous part is there is no middle ground on here. if you don't want to fire butch in 4 years because you think it'll screw up things here big time, you get labeled sunshine pumper who "think butch is a savior" (as i was called in another thread lol). if you say anything remotely negative you are labeled negavol. i personally am not blindly defending butch but rather not wanting to burn the program down every 4 years until we find a coach who can "live up to expectations we have here"

Agree. I'm not a Butch fan at this point, and I don't have faith he'll ever be anything more than what he's shown to this point.

But now isn't the Time to do anything. Our admin situation is a joke, and I have less faith in them to do any better than what we currently have.

i need more data to decide on butch, these particular 4 years just isn't enough for me to go one way or the other. the work he has done rebuilding this trash heap situation has been monumental and cannot be discredited. i have not seen anything that says to me 9 wins is his absolute ceiling. he has definitely had miscues but no coach is perfect and i have seen more good then bad with butch for sure. with all the injuries and given with more and more coming out about the hurd cancer and admin clownshow.. i'd say this season could have gone a whole lot worse. just my 2cents

I am more concerned about a Chancellor coming in with a Helen Reddy complex than about CBJ being here another year.

I think the season could've gone worse too.

And I don't disagree about the good that he's done. He's proved that he can rebuild a program and lay a foundation. And I appreciate that, because there's no doubt we're better off today competitively then we were five years ago.

But in each of the last two seasons with his players and his coaches he's giving away games that we had no business giving away.

And I think will continue to see that going forward

Jake I said stuff happens and it does. Otherwise why play the games? Let's look at the stars, coaches and their pay scale, how big the stadium is and then just declare winners and not play the games.

The key issue is that even if everyone believed that Butch has topped out, that we have no confidence in our AD to make a good hire (based on their track record and the current state of affairs).

Excellent. So we are basically stuck then. Next year is going to be a rough one. Rebuilding AGAIN if you will.
